New Elite kickstarter
-
I remember the original Elite game by David. I spend countless hours playing it back in the days. He got my backing for it.

Yeah, the lack of a video so far is somewhat disappointing. However, there is one up on Frontier Developments’ site for the game (here), so odds are that we’ll see something on Kickstarter too.

Also, I dont understand why a company that mainly develops “simple” mobile games has the necessary knowledge and expertise to develop such a game…
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only mobile games Frontier Developments has made are the two Lost Winds games, no? As far as I know, most of their other games were the Rollercoaster Tycoon games, Wallace & Gromit and Kinectimals.
Not to mention that having a company that’s been profitable for years is better for attracting publishers and sponsors than having (had) to put a new team from scratch together is.
Anyway, in my opinion, this project deserves a chance just as much as Squadron 42 / Star Citizen does. We’re talking about one of the two people who made Elite and started the freeform space sim genre, after all. (Sadly, Ian Bell hasn’t developed any games since.)
Oh, and thanks a bunch for posting the news!

I still play Frontier. I will play it in the future. Braben and Bell made the most impressive space sim ever. I love FL, WC, Privateer, Tie Fighter, but c’mon, this is Elite. He did a miracle on a single floppy with Frontier. But the times are changing. The industry is cruel and harsh, and if he will want to make a next Elite game, he will need so damn much more than 2 millions.
Now if he will manage to make such great game as Frontier in terms of gameplay and game mechanics plus in 2013-2014, I will buy it, I will buy a new PC for it too and I will never again play another game
Damn, time for Frontier nostalgia now

It took them a while, but they uploaded a pitch video now.
“[…] who’ve already plezed, pledged”, hehe.Glad to see that they’re keeping the 3D radar. In my opinion, that’s still the best I’ve seen in a space sim so far. (I-War 2’s radar came close, but it was much too small.)

Good news, it’s funded!

The next few years will be epic for space games. Think we need to overhaul this websiteI think you’re right. It’s easy to forget that we can’t be far away from X-rebirth as well, can’t wait to see what they’ve done with that monster. Can only assume it’s going to continue like this if kickstarter has anything to do with it.

Interesting indeed.
I simply hope that these games will stand up to their hype

I really think you should reorganize the forum to have more games instead of just Freelancer, now with so many good games coming out
