Freelancer Beta 1
-
I got around the CD check by putting in the second beta disk, however it gives me this error: http://puu.sh/25mbs and then this error after http://puu.sh/25mbR
-
Rename folder “My Games” at c:…blahblah…Documents to My games.Orig and try again
-
This happens every single time I try to rip the second one http://puu.sh/25rlF
I suspect that a normal retail disk would work however. -
I cracked open the Beta with FL Mod Studio to see how the universe changed. It looks mostly the same, except there are no unknowns and Alaska links to Omicron Minor via jump hole. There are also none of the locked superjumps (New Berlin -> Sigma-13, Leeds -> Dublin.) However, I found the missing St02b system:
It seems the Nomad Lair mission was meant to be more complex in the original, where you had to go through that winding tunnel (which looks like it has weapons platforms and Nomad lair parts I’ve never seen before) before getting to the familiar bit with the power cell.
-
There is a completely different nomad elite model seems to be an older format .cmp Dosent show very well in hardCMP but does import reasonably well in to ms3d with the older importer. also a no_ships.mat which might have been useful. Lots of different ambient music as well. colour me impressed. Also loving the nomad tunnel sections.

Take CloneCD or Daemon Tools Lite, find at their options SafeDisk and check it on - make image
-
Other differences:
-There’s an empty folder called Ionclouds in Data/Solar
-Voice acting for Mission 01 has Trent, King and the Universal transport with different voice actors.
-ScenarioSaves folder in Data with four bats and four corresponding decoded .fl files which seem to have a somewhat different format to normal .fl files.
-Systems seem to have no mission vignettes. -

I dont currently have an original FL disc nearby, so sadly cannot test if it works with the retail disk. Anybody tested this?

I’m liking all the stuff in the audio folder, such as the (inferior) Rheinland battle music and different Bretonia music. There’s also different pieces of dialogue hanging around, with more voice synthed files, seemingly as placeholders. I’ve not had a proper listen, but the music seems to be pre-mastered too, with more placeholders.
Oh, and loads of neural net stuff.

Just checked with a production original CD, CD check passes but popup states “beta has expired”
Then get an error window saying```
E:\FL\SCratch\Client\PerfOptions.cpp(262) : ERROR:General:options less than 0 again -
Mounted too - passed CD, yep, the same, managing
-
Roger. It runs but my home pc is far away only by RDP, so will try when i got it here

You dont have problems with the music files? I seem to be missing a codec…
Found it! Anybody missing the codec, install this:
-
Nope, works fine on Win 8.
I had to deactivate IPv6 after the first connect tho (got some error messages).
I like how you can mount your guns at the hardpoint you want:
Some other screens:
Guns aren’t rotating. gun.fllistserver.com is working for the beta server too btw
-
Not from the Beta, but I ported St02b into regular Vanilla and tested the difficulty with a Vanilla Anubis + Equipment. Wasn’t challenging at all. Also there are supposed to be texture animations and rotating fans, but I couldn’t get the latter to work.

EDIT: Also, checking the Nomad Elite’s cmp reveals that the rear spikes have an animation.

Looks like Descent 1

Would there be issue with me uploading some screens? Do you want this kept quiet?
