Owning Multiple Ships
-
Hold the phone everyone! I just had a possible breakthrough! I thought to myself, I’d really like to own more than one ship in freelancer, how could I do this?
Here’s my thought - have it so that any base that does NOT sell ships, would instead have a “ship chooser” room. It would act kinda’ like a ship dealer would, except, after the player buys a ship it is put in that room. When the player enters the room it acts as if the player is buying it again, only this time for $0 (i.e. allows cargo/equipment transferring). When the player has all three slots full, and buys another ship, it replaces the one they are currently flying.
What I need to know is if this is possible at all (even through scripting). Thx for any and all help anyone can offer me!

Adoxa’s console has something like this, but changes with commands instead of a UI.

Yeah, I’d rather it not use commands, but instead have the function integrated into the mod itself. There are quite a number of cool things in that link though (some of which I can use for other stuff, thx). However, I don’t want the player to use a console to “own multiple ships”. What I want is, basically, a dealer-type room that will be on certain bases, in-place of a ship dealer. Allowing the player to switch between 3 separate ships that they have bought. I hope that made sense, I did better explaining it above

So your breakthrough consists of… an idea you haven’t even bothered trying? It sounds all fancy schmancy, but it’s all hot air until you actually figure out how to make it work.
Have fun and good luck.

I know it was stupid of me to even bother putting this up until I made an attempt at it. I just wasn’t sure where to start, all I knew was that it would probably lead to writing code somewhere, which I really suck at! You’re right though, I’ll try to figure out something, then post it on here if I do.

Hmmm… Who’s Peggy Noonan?

Never mind, I’ve tried to learn coding before, and I just tried it again. I just can’t seem to grasp the concept of lua. It was a nice idea, but I guess that’s all it is. Thx for the suggestions.

Theoreticaly you may purchase ship package or ship hull like any reqular equipment or commodity. I mean not from ship room - from equipment or commodity dealer

To be honest I’ve played some games where you can buy several ships, and always went back to the one model. So after the novelty wears off it’s not so appealing.
In FL I created lots of accounts and the fun is in building up the cash to buy what you want, so I had different ships in different accounts and on different servers too.
So there are other ways to get the same.
However, the fun is in getting better, and that includes FL gaming, real life, and also programming.
I started modding with no knowledge, started by changing the start money and start ship, start location, changed some weapons to superguns, then wanted to design my own ships, so I got hold of the Drizzt tute, had to learn MikShape and GMAX and later a small bit of 3DSMAX, then had problems and got help, then got into some severely interesting stuff, created my own mod cos I always want to go it alone, found out and implimented some good stuff others hadn’t mentioned, got loads of SUR problems but still got it done.
Getting into difficulties and solving them gives a lot of satisfaction. It took me ages to get the tools to design my planets, and my own hypergates and other stuff, but I did it and they looked cool - and worked.
I’ve taken a back seat because my connection keeps dropping and our old guild dissolved. And my missus was getting very unhappy.
So don’t be disheartened by usual discouragement, if something appeals to you give it a shot and ask for help, and there are other kinder folk who will.
Not me though, I’m just taking a short break from being grumpy!

Yeah, I got a little depressed there when I discovered I still couldn’t code. Sry about that! But after reading your post, it makes me kind of want to give it another shot! Thx so much!
