A Few Topics to Discuss
-
The viewpoint has to be taken on the aspect of the non player of freelancer, rather than the “old” Freelancer players. This is because the old FL players will contribute to any feedback anyway.
Weaknesses should not be discussed or mentioned - this should be covered in the foillowup strategy. i.e. there will be people allocated to watch the threads or provide response to feedback from the sites / mags issued. There needs to be 10 keypoints which would attract the non player and make it a “uhm, i’m gonna try this”.
There needs to be 3 types of media - short medium and long. This covers the content issue they may have. An easy formatted “filler” is better than nothing and we have to accept that there will be some who are reluctant to do a large article on an aged game when they want to be seen and percieved as offering their readers fresh/new cutting edge news from the gaming industry.
The terminology needs to be in plain English, 99% of the readers will not understand ingame phrases and people get turned off when they dont understand things and stop reading.
Graphical media needs to be exciting and realistic. for instance, theres no point in showing the DX10 screens as this is not what they will sample in a normal game. Pulling out some vanilla screens - not used for marketing prior would be good. We need 6 offered and a further 12 for linking - this is for those who want to offer something different than the standard release - again, its so they can be seen as ahead of the game and have different content than their competitors. Using the additional artwork will ususally mean they will run an article with an “editor review” so it makes more of an interesting read.Ill post more later…but its my kids borthday party in an hour so…

And a small side note:
some of the mods might not be perfect for Freelancer beginners. -
They also need to be selected very well so as not to show unwanted favoritism. People will very frequently jump on such things to bash everybody.
I also think we need to actually go over the weaknesses the game has. Not to include them or anything, but to be able to better deal with them. After all, if a new player asks about those or finds one by himself, we need to be able to answer him/her properly without seeming caught off-guard.

show the achievements in modding… maybe showing some of the best modding features
maybe showing some of the best modsthere are 3 bigger FL communities which still care for the players… FLC, SP and SWAT (I didnt name TLR not because of my dislike but because of the fact that players mostly dont get any help there -> my impression from 7 unanswered help requests by normal players in the past 5 days)
the real development in FL simply happens on those 3 FL sites (and those sites are working together for the greater good of FL)i believe it would be best to write a “now and then” style review … showing that the original FL was already very good… but that todays FL is even better and that it can competite with other new games
very important is to mention the MP aspect as most of the new space sims look pretty (better than FL) but dont have a multiplayer (which is their big weakness) -
I think we need to also invite the RIP Staff team to this forum to help with the discussion.
SWAT is here representing one of the three site, and of course SP are here But to ensure we have input from all three sites, we need a member of the RIP team. Can someone invite them over and I will add them?
I also personally believe that after everything has been drafted out and decided upon, it needs to be an Admin from one of the 3 sites that sends the articles out.
I have also chased the Ubisoft contact I made for a response on my original request. We know have Ubisoft being chased in different countries, so fingers crossed. ;D

Im Here … just got logged in and access…Thx Roo
read the post and am up to Date …
1st TY for thinking of asking for our input on this campaign.
imo spreading the word about the status of FL and the FL community (in other words - We are still Playing everywhere and creating new content) can only do good for the game and the community… Â and im sure Dwn will agree that the our staff at FLC would support it 100%.
waiting until the Fall to make the push would be best imo… Summertime is known to be when player levels and online activity drop in all online games not just FL…spread the word heavily as people are coming back to their pc`s.

This has come to a stand still, which isn’t good.
I think when I am home from work I will do some research into some points FF raised in his opening post. I will post the findings here.
Has anyone else spent anytime think about this?

Has anyone else spent anytime think about this?
This is the problem.
We all want to do something, and have great ideas, but once we need to actually do anything, we all stop and come to a standstill.
Has anyone else put any thought into this?

Yeah, nothings been done because its not organised. So far people have given feedback, but there isnt anyone saying, ok we go this way we do that or IMO we are going to make this. etc.etc.
Until you get that, your only going to get feedback and ideas and nothing done.
