FLCN V 2.0 Applications
-
The reason i removed FLCN from my forum is due to the ongoing issues with me being banned on a regular basis. Whether its dos attacks using the stored ip’s in the FLCN bar to bounce off of or some other reason, having the bar on my forum is doing myself and my reputation no good whatsoever.
When a ban occurs for whatever reason, the FLCN bar slows my forum down so much, it can take me over 5mins to access it. When the FLCN code is removed, everything is back to normal. This is the reason i don’t have it atm.
Conclusion, it’s possible there is a security issue involved with said code as this problem also affects others who have it. I’d suggest a good look at the FLCN code to see if there is a way to beef up the security side of things otherwise this problem will cease to go away

@Bas: I guessed as much when I saw all of Crazy’s sites being down. I also guessed your sites would be back up soon.
Any site that’s listed as “down” will be rechecked every once in a while to make sure it wasn’t just bad luck on the host.
Any site listed as “to be removed” is because the link has already been agreed upon to get removed (IE the old Imperium clan site, the old ESF clan sites). It only concerns the current links, not future ones like the new Imperium clan site or the consolidated ESF clan site.
@Gibbon: I’ll see what I can do, but I still would’ve liked getting told about it instead of you just removing it without warning.

See, in these days the FLCN should link to every FL site even if they only have it on the homepage. Except if you have another idea how to hold the rests of the community together. I don’t say that the FLCN is a right, I say that your rationalism should explain the natural need to link everyone in these days. The starport claims to be one of the leading FL community sites, but this behaviour doesn’t legitimize that claim. Furthermore, I don’t think that w0dk4 wanted the hosters to make such rules. Well anyway, you must know what you’re doing, think about it.
-
AFAIK W0DK4 was even a co-creator of those rules.
Aigle-Imperial, without any offense and with the greatest respect, for me it seems that you write too many aggressive and offensive postings. You might want to check by yourself, just search for your own posts and think over it. Thank you. -
The FLCN was created to link between all Freelancer sites. It wasn’t built so that some sites could freeload on others for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Is there any pragmatic or logical reason for not putting the bar other than technical issues (which is either your responsibility or is already being worked upon on our end).
I do not see why some sites should be allowed to be in the FLCN without displaying the bar. The rules clearly stated you had to show it; if you didn’t read the rules and slipped through or if you removed it afterwards, it’s your problem. We are trying to make this work both ways. The point is not to give you free traffic, it’s to make the overall community feel more tied together. The basic premise behind the bar was “leave no dead-end”, meaning you should be able to access all FL sites from any FL site. If you don’t put the bar, you’re going against that philosophy.
Remember that by not putting the bar, you’re effectively denying everyone else the ability to connect with your site. I wonder why all the other sites would have to link to you, but you wouldn’t be held up to the same standard.
As for the request to put it not just on a single, far-off page, it’s also because of the same philosophy. Yes, theoretically, you could put it up only in your “copyrights” page which nobody ever looks at, but that’d be stretching it don’t you think? Again, it’s just to make the community as a whole more connected; only putting it on a small subset of your pages which most of your visitors don’t look at anyways goes against that. Remember that this is a suggestion, however. I guess you’re free to do whatever you want as long as you have it somewhere that is still frequented a bit.

Question answered?
Yes, thank you.
But i can’t fullfill your request.
Problem: Our forum is php. I do have a bit knowledge of html/java. But i don’t know php.Our board is standard stuff. Standard template. All what we have there is standard. A few weeks ago i sc** totally our forum to put in the shoutbox (put .xml file in). It did cost me a lot of trouble and a bit of creative mind to change our top picture. So i really don’t know how i must put this java script into the forum, without messing it up again.
Hope you satisfy that i only put it on all of the pages from our website.
And that i only put a link to Starport on our frontpage in the links section of the forum. -
Hi people.
On the page http://the-starport.net/community_network/ there is already a link to our community, Freeworlds, but that is an old link.
It should link to http://www.freeworlds-tow.net
Could you change that?
Then I will place the FLCN bar on our websites. -
We posted in our Public forum on the FLC our reasons for Removing the FLCN…
on multiple occasions or whenever there is a problem with SP hosting. it effects our Sites in a negative way… Load times mostly.
now we let this go on for Quite awhile and thought it would be sorted out . it never was
we continue to link to the SP but will no longer Run the FLCN
Feel free to Remove the FLC and UV … if you have any questions feel Free to PM me on the FLC…

My two cent as someone that helped redraft the rules regarding the FLCN.
I don’t own a FL Server or site. But if I did, I would not object to these simple and basic rules laid down. Why? Because this is a free service that works on the premise that if you share, we share, everyone shares.
Add the FLCN to your site, we add you to the FLCN. It’s a win-win situation for all involved.
Keep up the good work TSP Staff and Admin alike.
(Note: Worfeh! I am waiting for your PM Reply… )

@WW: If you want, I could take a look at your template file.
@Qi: We’ll update the link ASAP.
@Soup: Starport’s been down a handful of times. I wouldn’t call that excessive. I’m still looking into a solution.

FriendlyFire,
I have installed the top bar on the main website page and in the phpbb3 forum, but you haven’t changed the link to our community yet.
Our forum has 1558 members, and 35 GB/mo traffic. I think it’s one of the top communities.
Please also change the name of our community. Freeworlds and Tides Of War have merged. It is now called:
Freeworlds-ToW
http://www.freeworlds-tow.net/

I’ve been studying algebra and physics for the past three days nonstop. I’ll update the FLCN for all current changes whenever I actually have 10-15 mins to do it, no need to get upset or defensive about it.
-
Freeworlds, Lord, Discovery USA added. Exodus removed.
Remember to refresh your page, otherwise you might not see the changes.
-
Whoops… Was sure I had it removed already.
NOW it should be good
-
As has been plastered all over the site, the FLCN has been updated. See the main topic for details.
Since many sites removed the bar due to the unreliability of the site, I’m extending the grace period by two weeks so that people who wish to may add the bar back with the new code.
This code is hosted on Google, so any problem with The Starport will not affect it!
