FLAC or FLHook?
-
Well…
A FLAC license is 60 USD as far as I know. I, however, can’t tell whether there is a feature list for it and I know there isn’t for FLHook since it’s way too incoherent depending on which version you’re using and what plugins you’re loading.
What exactly is your problem with cloaking? I actually found the cloak plugin to be rather polished and effective at working it out.
The largest advantage of FLAC is that it is a one-stop shop; it has everything built-in and can be used by a total newbie. The disadvantages are that Eagle has the source, so if there’s a problem you’re relying on him and him alone to fix it. I’ve also seen some problems with fixes (which you are forced to download automatically) breaking other stuff.
Oh, and FLHook’s plugin structure is far more developed, popular and generally mature. If you need help with plugins, you’ll have no problem finding it.
Take my advice with a grain of salt though, as I’m a total FLHook fanboy

Thanks for the replies so far…
But I better explain with the cloaks…
I’m using FLHook now myself and I have working cloaks so that’s not the problem! The problem is I have to sell them with the package for a ship in order to have it mounted! I’ve tried quite a few things now to make them buyable (so they won’t screw up a ship in OSP) but no success so far, so that’s my main problem with them… That I can’t make them buyable/sellable! -

U guess u can also make your cloak a gun or something like that.@ topic: I would prefer hook as it can be edited by urself plus i wouldnt pay for such a software as that is not my understand of a community (no offense to eagle or his guys intendet).

MU uses FLAC and has done for quite some time. The actual licence cost is 50 usd or 35 euros at current exchange rates.
Ive never had a problem donating 35 euros for the use of it i see it as the same thing as donating to a server to assist with the upkeep of it. Guess this was another way for Eagle to get donations for his server.
Anyway granted yeah there has been a few hiccoughs with FLAC updates in the past but they were always quickly resolved which in my book is good support of the program.
Features theres loads of them, dock groups, advanced dock groups, equipment mount groups, cloaking, setreps, intercept, kill bonus’s, working cargopods, ability to lock systems, no pvp systems, bank commands, sendcash, bounty hunt, customisable death messages, rep templates. and a whole load of other stuff i haven’t mentioned yet. here are also a handful of plugins available for things such as setjoinmessages mostly coded by BullDog.
There are upsides and downsides to both programs really it just depends on what you want from them and if they can do what you want.

As a user of both… FLHook is the way of the future.
Having said that, our team has ALOT of work to do in order to get FLHook to the same capability feat wise as FLAC. Out of the box, FLAC offers many things which FLHook doesn’t. Even with existing plugins, there are many feats that FLHook lacks. I’ll admit, there are some feats which are available (through plugins) for FLHook which are not available on FLAC. Generally speaking, the FLAC feats missing from FLHook are more important to the server administration in my opinion. Not to mention FLAC includes a graphical interface which allows you to edit characters and such without the use of a 3rd party app such as Ioncross ect. ect.
All in all, if you have the coding experience on your server team willing to customize FLHook and manufacture plugins which will meet your needs… then get FLHook. If you lack the coding experience on your team, or the time required… then get FLAC.
For my server, we decided to go with FLHook because our programmers are willing to tweak it to our needs. Unfortunately, this is a significant workload and is a drain on our personnel resources. We used FLAC for years, its a great product and does many of its feats in a rather clean and efficient manner. Ultimately, its up to you what you want. Determine your needs, don’t get caught up in the fanboy(ism).

You forgot FLAC was constantly breaking down (forgetting its license, some feats disappearing for no reason) and the licenses didn’t work on our last server, but shhhht, nobody must know!
-
That’s unusual tbh because i’ve been running FLAC for years with no probs whatsoever. I’ve always found it reliable and relatively easy to use.
I suppose in my case because i’m a one man army i don’t have time to deal with FLHook and programming in all the functions i want. I just want to load my mod, turn on the server and bingo, it works.
Some features of FLAC i like amongst others are the dockable player ships and a working dynamic economy, plus the cloak functions are cool as well. Player banking is also something the players like to use as well.

Thanks for the replies…
I think Forsaken and Gibbon makes “the best points” I’m a lone modder right now, so I don’t have time nor the know how to make all the programming for FLHook right now, so it sounds like I should go with FLAC for now! It also does offer those exact features (from what you guys tells me) that I’m looking for!
A few other questions though…
The FLAC license, is it a one time fee or is it limited in time etc?
I’m not a wellknown modder or server op, so should I even bother to request a license? (Heard stories about people got rejected because of that)

It’s a one time fee, once you’ve paid it, that’s it. It’s always best to have a forum up with ppl on it. If you have a server up then make sure it appears on the global list, just register it on wodk4s site and it’s there for everyone to see.
We can always put in a good word for you on Eagles forum

That sounds good Gibbon… Thanks alot!
Well… If everything goes well I should release the first demo or actually first release soon! It’s not much for starters, but I want to get something going and tested now and I can’t do that alone… And with an auto updater why not just make a totally dynamic mod out if it!, update it bit by bit with new systems, weapons and so on and actually make it a storyline?
Worth a try so let’s see how that goes…

Hmm… That could be an idea maybe! Well I’ll just contact Eagle and ask him!
Is there a direct way to contact him or should I just use “[email protected]” which is the only contact mail I can find on the site…

No FLAC is FreeLancer Anti-Cheat written by Eagle. It performs many server admin functions and protects the server from cheaters. It also supports several plug-ins that add to the feature set of FLAC.
FLMM is FreeLancer Mod Manager that loads and unloads mods for Freelancer.
-
FAM is Freelancer Account Manager. This lets a player operate multiple accounts so that they can have more than 5 ships. Note that some server don’t like you to use multiple accounts so it is best to check that you are allowed.
http://lordkorrd.googlepages.com/famYou might have been referring to:
DAM which is Discovery Account Manager. This is for server operators and lets a server operator manage their players.

Just thought I’d throw this on the side here - recent beta versions of M0tah’s FLHook have restructured the INI to read from several INIs in Data/FLHook - like items.ini for item-related stuff, death.ini for death penalty/message related stuff, cloak.ini for cloak-related stuff, repair.ini for repair gun / solar repair stuff, etc. This makes it much easier to configure for the first time, as it’s more structured like normal mod INIs. These betas are pretty close to release, so it’ll probably pop up soon enough.
