Cloak And Hook Question
-
**1 - When I change a player’s name in Ioncross, cloak stops working, suggestions?
2 - How do I set the superadmin in Hook to enable the admin features?**
-
#1 Don’t change names.
(Something forced me …… )#2 - put a file named ‘flhookadmin.ini’ in the players account dir
with - say -[admin]
rights=superadmin -
I’ll emphasize: NEVER rename a character in Ioncross. Use FLHook’s console with the command “rename <oldname><newname>” or ingame as an admin “.rename (…)”. Ioncross corrupts characters when renaming them.
To set the superadmin, you must go in FLHook’s server console and use the command “setadmin <username>superadmin”.</username></newname></oldname>

If you are running flhook plugin, then the renameme plugin offers in game renaming for regular players and the ability to move characters between accounts.
Download flhook-plugin and the renameme plugin from: http://forge.the-starport.net/gf/project/flhook/frs/?action=FrsReleaseBrowse&frs_package_id=2
In game to you type
/renameme <newname>or
/movechar <charname>(from old account)oh and you can fix char files that have been renamed with ioncross using the fixname plugin.</charname></newname>

Now I know what’s happening with my Ioncross and player files. If this is the case, why was it added in the first place?

Because it was the sole thing available for many years?
Remember Ioncross arrived on the scene in the early days, while Hook is relatively recent. For a long time, it was the best thing and you do what you can with what you have, eh?

I know that Boomz developed it in 2003 but, I thought that Hook came with the game disc? I’ve had the original disc since May, 2003 and it’s in the .exe. I didn’t use Ioncross until someone told me about it for running servers auto-maticaly. I was using FLShell at the time. It has this option as well. I never used it for changing names until Disco come out with those pay for a name change cards added to the mod. Never needed to, everyone seemed satisfied until that option was included. So, I just used Ioncross in spite of the warning and all seemed to be ok to me.

I think you don’t understand how these tools were developed. No information about anything in Freelancer is officially documented. That means everything had / has to be reverse engineered. And that’s the reason why many tools contain errors since it takes much time to discover the whole connections and not only some small parts.
Hook was developed by McHorst and later on by all the guys you can find in the credits.
