/v/lancer: A mod for bros by bros
-
This is a rather pathetic reaction… I honestly had expected better, especially after Pastaspace’s disclaimer. You’re exactly like them, from what I can gather.
Ironic, isn’t it?
-
I’d like to give you a good advice. Remove every Crossfire content from your mod now, because if I see your mod somewhere containing stuff from my mod then you will end up with the worst trouble you can imagine. And I definitly dont care about how much traffic you have or how big 4chan is.
So take this advice, remove the Crossfire content, do the same if the other modders request it and we will be fine. (and for gods sake stop talking about other peoples work in such a respectles way)

@ FriendlyFire
Actually, considering what /b/ (The other 4channers) are like, this is actually very civil for 4chan, normally we’d be bombared, DDOSed, and have the forums filled with various shock images.
@ OPR8R
You… might not actually want to do that, challenging 4chan is never a good idea, /b/ is kind of scary when it comes to retaliation…

Cut the crap now and let’s try resolving this matter instead of bickering?
-
What do you want to resolve FF? They are using at least one of my starspheres and probably even more. They have not even corrected an texture overlay after stealing it. The only way to resolve it is when they remove that and everything else that they probably have taken from my mod.

We’re just trying to have fun, a concept you don’t seem to understand. Get over yourself, your site isn’t worth getting support from anyway, and all three people who regular this forum aren’t worth playing with either.
There is nothing you can do, anyway. I’m sure you stole from someone else’s mod, or would steal from someone else’s mod, if you made a mod yourself. Modeling and texturing and perfecting everything isn’t worth the time when there’s free resources.
-
Erm… No? It’s not because you’re doing something for fun (remember we ALL are) that you should steal people’s hard work. Look at free software; it’s available to anyone, but you cannot claim it as your own. That’s just a total lack of respect or ethics.
And I would never steal from another mod. Use with permissions? Sure, why reinvent the wheel? But take what I want with no regard for the person who put hours into the work? Not a chance.
-
1.) Ask the authors if they agree that their ressources get used by your mod. If they agree, there is no reason to remove them
2.) Remove all the contents for which mod authors didn’t grant you permissions.Seriously, I mean, if you are making a mod, a application or whatever and spend a lot of work for it, would you like to see people claming this work as their own?
What if I, for example, just copy your mod and name it “Bas’ uber mod for th4 pwn00rz”? Would like to see this happen? This isn’t a treatment, but you might should think about this situation. Would you like such a thing? Can’t imagine you do.
And a friendly warning from me: No matter, how many fans you have, how many players are at your server, there ARE important reasons why you shouldn’t lost a friendship to The Starport.
There aren’t many places where you will get modding support for Freelancer, especially if you are stuck with a problem, and moreover, you won’t get access to the admins internal area. Do I have to mention that sentimental topics are handled there? Those are, for instance, server security, cheaters, cheat protection, server tools and many more.Oh, and btw: FriendlyFire has created a mod with a devteam as well. So he knows about what he is speaking.

Well for one there’s a difference between ripping a model or texture, which is what you’re implying the /v/lancer devs did, and ripping a whole mod.
Also, “Bas’ uber mod for th4 pwn00rz” is a great name, I think I’ll use it for the mod I’m making.

To be honest.
I’d actually like it, /v/lancer is made according to the specifications of /v/, its made for the bros, so I really don’t care if anything unique to it was stolen, considering it wouldn’t do much. Hell, many of the features we’d LOVE to see in other mods. -

e: Also if people had just said “hey can you credit any stuff you’ve yoinked from stuff I’ve made” instead of “HOLY SHIT A MOD THEFT HAS TRANSPIRED” things would have been totally chill from the start.

Don’t worry, I am definitivly not going to steal ANYTHING
Well for one there’s a difference between ripping a model or texture, which is what you’re implying the /v/lancer devs did, and ripping a whole mod.
Nope, I just assumend that there might be something true about the postings of some mod makers here (OPR8R, FriendlyFire) because I know them very well and I am 100% sure that they don’t write such statesments if they aren’t sure about.
I personally haven’t seen any stealing of mod ressources, I am not saying that there isn’t any stealing NOR do I say there is. I just have a very bad memory sometimes, sry. I simple can’t say anything.OK…a much better example then
I take a popular programm…hm, which one? Winamp? Ok…Imagine you are the project leader and leading programmer of Winamp.
Now I re-release it under a totally new name and claim it as my own: “Bas l4m0rz music player”.
Would you really like this move? Also, I can assure you that almost nobody, if everyone at all, will help if you run into ANY problems. Freelancer modders have lifed mostly in contrary respect of each other, so there isn’t such a high chance that they are going to help someone who stole someone’s work, even if it wasn’t from the ones you asked for help.

.I can guarantee you that the makers of winamp would find this hilarious, and would commend you if you were ever able to get your downloads into double digit figures.

Also from what I’ve seen, the majority of mod makers I’ve had the displeasure of talking to treat the small changes to a number of config files as their life’s work, and I am absolutely not surprised at all that the first response to anything was “ZOMGTHIEF”, this whole situation is ridiculous, y’all are babies.
