Regarding MODDB Mod of the Year 2009
-
Most of the mods listed on ModDB are active. Whether they are “good” is subjective, but I think people are able to decide at that point.
Also, it’s not because a mod is no more active that it doesn’t deserve a bit of recognition

This is what I posted on the Shattered Worlds War-Torn forums. I urge every community leader to post something similar to this in their forums. Feel free to use this post (edited to fit your mod name of course lol).
Yunno, come to think of it, I might make the rounds to other server forums and bug you community leaders if you haven’t posted something similar. It is a common misunderstanding that the MOTY awards are a competition between Freelancer mods. This is simply not the case… Phase 1 we fill the “Top 100” with worthy Freelancer mods by voting for all FL mods you like. And then in Phase 2 we can compete.
Hey all,
It is that time of the year again and the annual ModDB “Mod of the Year” awards are in progress. Our mod is one of many Freelancer mods that have been nominated and are in the running for the Top 100 mods of 2009.
Despite the old age of Freelancer, the Freelancer server and modding communities continue to keep the game alive. Not only are we keeping the game alive, we are expanding the game pushing the engine to its limits. These days, features which were dreamed of by Freelancers during the early days are a reality on many servers. All of this is because of the dedication of the players, modders, and server admin across the entire FL community.
In order to keep the game alive and raise awareness of the game (in hopes of getting new players and returning veterans on our servers) the leaders of the Freelancer community at The Starport are doing what we can to get as many Freelancer mods on this years “Top 100” list. So far we’ve made great progress. As of last night, Freelancer was #2 for most votes for Freelancer mods. We need to do our part and propel us forward.
This is what I ask of EVERYONE…. For Phase 1 of voting (which decides the “Top 100” mods) you are allowed to vote for more than one mod. PLEASE VOTE FOR THE SHATTERED WORLDS::WAR-TORN MOD AND VOTE FOR ANY OTHER FREELANCER MODS THAT YOU LIKE TOO.
Help us get our mod in the Top 100 along with the other great FL mods out there!
Here is what you need to do…
-
Go to ModDB and register (if you aren’t already). It is really easy to register and they don’t spam your email account…. it is risk free as it gets.
-
Go to the Shattered Worlds::War-Torn ModDB page
-
Vote for us by clicking on the giant “Vote for Mod” button near the “Latest Screens” panel
-
To find other Freelancer mods and vote on them…

As of last night, Freelancer was #2 for most votes for Freelancer mods.
Might want to change that to something like “As of last night, Freelancer was #2 for most voted game of the MOTY Awards.”
-
Voted for the major FL mods as they have the best chance to reach the top100 and sent out 8000 mails asking old players to vote for FLmods.
Another 6000 mails will follow today. The responses so far are quiet positive with many votes returned, but from experience I would say that it takes at least a weak before all mails are being read.
However - Merry X-mas and good luck
-
Battlefield 2 is catching up, fellas. Need to keep up the votes!
-
Freelancer was in second yesterday, will have to look again.
I voted for several mods myself.
-
I agree - I am sure that the frontpage games get bonus votes by the community.
But…where do you get such information (“BF 2 is coming close…” etc pp) - I mean, where do I get it? >_> ^ -
Bas, the scoreboard is here:
http://www.moddb.com/events/2009-mod-of-the-year-awards/scoreboardI will also encourage people to vote for multiple mods at once. What concerns me is that - not sure, but it seems so - Top-100 is not simply based on user votes, but is also altered by ModDB admins to have mods for more games present. For example, if the #1 mod for some game receives less votes than #8 mod for Freelancer, it’s as well possible that they choose top 3 or 4 Freelancer mods and remove the rest FL mods so that more games could get in.
Can be mistaken about this policy, but results for previous years (not just for Freelancer) showed that it’s very likely: you see how many votes Half-Life 2 gets, but you won’t have 50% of the list contain HL2 mods.
-
they dont edit the results
i know that for sure as im in good contact with one of their adminsit would not even be neccessary to edit anything because the current results a very illusionary
1700 votes for FL
maybe the best FL mods have 200-300 votesthat is not much
eg. a game that is ranked on position 12 and has only 700 votes in total but but has a mod with 400 votes would be still far higher ranked in the top 100even if FL is on position 2 it might happen that no FL mod reach the top 100 because there are not enough votes for that mod.
To give votes to small FL mods is nothing wrong if we want to push the game, but we should make sure that the big mods which are able to reach the top 100 get every possible support.
Only that will bring FL mods into the top100 ranks. And when the 2nd phase of the voting has started then we have to make sure that the top100 mods (FL) receive a maximum of support aswell.
-
@OP: Hence why, if you vote for all mods, you’re certain to both promote the game and help the biggest mods reaching the Top 100.
-
yes - but the results show that not all ppl vote for all mod which is just natural
but we should make sure that the members of our communities at least vote for the biggest and most active mods because these are the ones which have the best chance to reach the top100if ppl vote for these mods good, if ppl vote for all mod even better but the “good” should be the minimum we should aim for.
-
Of course. I don’t think many people actually do vote for the smaller mods without voting for the big ones though; the reverse is far likelier.
