I haven’t played FL in a couple years. I just bought a new computer running windows7. I installed FL, installed FLMM1.31, and installed the Discovery 4.85 mod, and the Global Server Work Around. When I click “multiplayer” it ask for an account ID. What is that and how do I and how do I get one.

You’d normally get one automatically. Try installing the 1.1 path (deactivate Disco first) and try again.

Hmm. The discovery mod already includes a global server workaround and the 1.1 patch.
A lot of people are downloading and installing the updates from moddb rather than installing the full release.
You need to download the full version of 4.85 from here http://www.moddb.com/mods/discovery-freelancer/downloads/discovery-freelancer-v485-reunion
Don’t download the any of the updates; just the full version from the link above.
Once the mod is installed and Freelancer run for the first time it should automatically update to the latest update. Because some people are behind proxies it might not automatically update. In this case you will need to manually install the latest update.
