Where to buy Freelancer CD?
-
@ Syd
Not all their links are dead, in fact they all work but out of the shops listed claiming to sell FL, only Walmart actually does.
@ NeXoSE
No offence but what the hell do you expect for a game that’s 7 years old, or soon will be? It’s obvious it’s going to more and more difficult to buy a copy as those who have actually taken a reality check here have already pointed out. It’s time to get heads out of clouds and drop back into the realworld. Microsoft don’t give a rats arse for this game anymore. Get used to that fact, FL is dying, slowly. There’s a few thousand hardcore fans out there, me included who just love the game and won’t let it die. Forget forcing Microsoft to print up more cd’s, not going to happen, ever. Get used to it. Same with FL2, not gonna happen and i wish people would finally realise that but that’s for another topic. I suggest you buy a copy while you still can because it won’t be long before it’s extinct. It’s just how it is.

And to be honest I’m waiting for the point where the game becomes unavailable in most of the world. Why? Because then we enter a gray area that gives us additional flexibility to promote the game.
If you cannot legally purchase a copy of the game… Just look at oldie games and how they’re handled most of the time.

I got that point. But then people cannot get FL CD, the Freelancer /& Most FLServer maybe will ……

So - shouldn’t some of you entrepreneurial types go and buy the copies that remain and store them for selling on when posterity ends?

Ther’s no way microsoft ic going to sell anoterh freelancer CD. They don’t have the brains for that. It’s a mass market ecconomy. Ths they have the copywrite, And if they can’t make another billion $ on it they won’t let someone else make $50 on it. They could have made a sequel and got rich all over again. But they didn’t have the brains to do that. Most corporate execs are not that smart after all. their only skill is counting money, And some time sthey can’t do that well either. look what they did with mario bros. they sold three different versions. Talk about making money! Why can’t eddison Trent fall into some new adventure and face new dangers? Who wouldn’t want to buy into that? I know I would. A new storyline would interest me far more than new ships and weapons. After all there’s more to RPGs than flying and shooting. It’s the story that keeps you wanting to get to the nex lavel in the game. You sit on the edge of your seat hopping beat the next challenge. And when you’ve done that you look forward to the next! Another game I’d like to see done agian is Tachyon. I’d still be playing that if I haden’t lost my product code. And who wouldn’t want to see Jake Logan embark on a new and dangerous adventure? Maybe he could return to Mars and fight evil there. Or go to the unknow reaches of space with the Bora. Wouldn’t that be great?

Well for a start you’d have to wrestle Jake Logan (Bruce Campbell) off of the tv series “Burn Notice”. For those of you who don’t know, he did the voice for the hero, Jake Logan. I bet he’d charge a lot more now as well. There is a free remake of Tachyon being done using the Freespace 2 engine if i’m not mistaken, check it here: http://fringespace.org/
As to more Freelancer, you may or may not know, FL2 was being developed for the XBOX so nomal pc players would have had no chance of playing it. Thankfully it was dropped. I agree a nice new shiny FL would be cool, with a new story but how many times can you play the same storyline over and over? Juni’s arse would just simply not look as good after the 1235th play through.

Get on Youtube and search for Freelancer 2 demo…

Probably some scurvy pirate selling a mod!
Hmmm… let’s see…

@ NeXoSE
Well it is FL2 or more to the point was. You can think what you want, believe what you want. I’ve posted enough links to Project Lonestar to last me a lifetime. Do a search on these forums, plenty of links. There are even links to people who worked on the game, if you don’t believe those then what more can i say?

Hi Gibbon,
I don’t believe temporary that because i don’t have more detail about it. I means there no official announcement for it.But if we will really get Freelancer 2, that is the best news in this year of my.

I’m inclined to agree with FriendlyFire. Although that gray area is always pretty gray, I will admit I am not above pirating a copy of Freelancer in order to pass it on to a friend to try. It’s just too difficult and too much of a hassle to find a copy of Freelancer just to show someone the game and its mods.
Nowadays if you were to buy the game, the money isn’t going anywhere except the shop owner or previous owner. Microsoft doesn’t get the money, and Digital Anvil certainly isn’t either.

i guess its pretty time for introducing a legal purchasable download of the game. soon there will be no more copies of freelancer available in shops. i mean, i have searched through all cologne (germany) in order to find it, and finally bought it from a collectioneer in britain for a ridiculously high price (26€ however, is too much for a game that in a shop would be worth 5€ to 10€). and this happened nearly two years ago, imagine what’s it now.

(But a good question if they deliver also to Europe/Germany and how high the costs will be…)
Maybe we should re-try getting Freelancer at GOG - Through a digital download shipping won’t be an issue anymore.

I got mine for 5€ - maybe two or three years ago

Hehe. I hope you not means the Trent’s War.
I googled Project Lonestar, and i got
A sequel, Freelancer 2, was in development by Digital Anvil / Microsoft Game Studio in 2006 for XBOX 360. Codenamed “Project Lonestar”, the game was cancelled when Microsoft closed the studio.
