From model to ship…
-
Ok, so I’ve just started work on my new mod (not saying anything yet, don’t wanna spoil it ;)), and it’s come to my attention that I have no clue how to get a ship ingame.
So, what are the steps? Also…
- How do I convert a .3ds file to .mat?
- How do I make a .sur from it? I heard of LS’ .sur builder, but I’m not sure how well it works.
- And what the heck is a .cmp?
[/noobish mode]
-
-The cmp is the model, with all its HPs, parts, …Import into ms3d and use the cmp exporter (v0.3)
-The mat is a texture library
-The sur - well, its the collision mesh…use the ms3d-exporters, sur splicer method ore LS program -
How about clicking in the Search tab at the top left under FORGE and entering “drizzt”…??
One of the finds is this one…
drizzt4.0_ship_creating_tutorialv1.5.pdf and its link is:
http://the-starport.net/freelancer/download/singlefile.php?cid=5&lid=537The search won’t find the tutorial even though it has nice keywords in its title like Ship Creating Tutorial
Who wrote the search engine?

Yeh, I know, don’t worry just my silly humour again.
Searching here is sometimes fruitless, especially this particular tutorial, I find it because I remember it’s Drizzt’s so I search for his nick.
It’s a very useful one.
The other one is Osprey’s, search on his name too.
And if I remember Argh did a good one on UV Mapping and texturing but I couldn’t find it last time I looked, sure it’s there in the downloads somewhere.
There was another on texturing by Ryuujin which was very good but was beyond me at the time.
Aha… here it is: http://the-starport.net/modules/wfdownloads/singlefile.php?cid=5&lid=2002
