Freelancer Accound ID for Linux
-
Well, he actually said how he did it. There is a front-end for wine called ‘Play On Linux’. You usually just select the game/application you want to install and follow the instructions.
jpd101: Can you tell me with which version of POL/FL script version you installed the game/when you did install it? Maybe they fixed the error I am suffering from meanwhile (if it isn’t my FL disc or disc device).
-
Yes but he has problems, it’s not a fully working solution, like the others too.
-
Bas currently i am runny Ubuntu 10.01 POL 3.7.3 what error are you getting exactly
Vesko: how do i go about using VMware. for freelancer.
What are the best Freelancer Mods out there i got Discovery, TNG and WTS are there any with UFO’s
whats the deal X3 Reunion good, bad, boring?
-
Did you try the 1.1 patch?
-
Well, try to run it with wine. You might have to select your Freelancer directory during the installation process.
-
Well, VMware is basically a virtual machine app that runs on Mac OS/Windows/Linux. To use FL on it, you need to install Windows XP, or any other version thst’s compatible with it. Then, all you need to is install FL on it the same way you would on a regular XP machine, and voila!
-
Yes but then you still need Windows, and my reason for wanting FLServer.exe and Freelancer.exe both to run in Wine/Linux is to get rid of Windows permanently.
-
Well, the client can run at Linux as it seems. BUt I am not such sure about the server.
-
No this has not yet been fully confirmed - I asked if they could play multiplayer but there was no definite reply - SP games seemed OK but not MP.
And yes I think FLServer will not run either.
Who can confirm what about FL in Linux please?
-
yeah Startrader is right i would not want to have windows xp i will apply the freelancer patch and see if that gives me the account id i dont want to setup FLserver just go into MP.
too bad they canceled Freelancer 2 aka “Project Lonestar”

DL GLS Workaround @ www.flserver.de
-
@StarTrader: It worked somehow for me a while back, but MP lagged like hell, and there is no chance to run it on a single core system. My Computers CPU(2x3GHz) was fully used.
Running an Server does not work at all, it hangs during startup with an error of dplaysrv(Direct Play Server Module), No game using that server base is working, as I’ve been told.Is this Answer detailed enought for you this time? It may work now, but I don’t think so.
-
Aha! Thanks very much, Tai!
-
Hm, might try the fllistserver.com update then since the GLS Workaround uses - as far as I know - some kind of coding solution - which might be not compatible with wine.
Here is the article:
http://fllistserver.com/news/index.php/2009/12/22/how-to-use-the-new-freelancer-listserver/
You might also try a direct connect method…I can’t recall the syn…ah, with windows you use -s <ipoftheserveryouwanttoconnectto>at the target line. Dunno how to use it in wine, TBH.
You should see this server then in the LAN server list in Multiplayer menu. (Not sure about if it gets listed as an internet server, though)</ipoftheserveryouwanttoconnectto>
