Does it matter???
-
I’m probably drunk, or just too tired now while I’m writing it, and I wanna ask: Does it really matter??? Is there privacy in mods? Anything exclusive? All we know is from communities, and we share our knowledge, but we still need to ask for premissions to use stuff.
I have many stuff which I have no idea when I downloaded them and who made it, and I need to find someone to give a credit. Also I saw many mods which don’t include credits in the Readme.
Don’t understand me wrong, I respect credits and always give them, but sometimes I just can’t find the credit!
Does anybody know who made the New FL ship models (all the MK II ships)? (if you ever heared about it) -
Yer… I hear ya as I’ve been there (chased many old modders last year… for most of the year…) but the reality is… no, there’s no real “point”… its just nice really… others have taken the money and ran… but if you value your place in a community you try to credit as much as possible… sometimes that isn’t possible … but most of us know about that…
Are the ships you reffer to the patriot2-defender2-mule2 and the like… look like they’ve had a major workover but still the same ships… that’d be Mancer, same guy that did alot of Starwars ships back in the day… just credit him… is all that’s needed for Mancer’s ships to be used. alot of old ships are in that category… as there makers have either passed (RIP) or moved on from us.
If your ever stuck for “who made this” you can always send (me at least) PM’s around with a pic… one of us old coote’s will know something

Well it matters! Generally seen. And if there is no one who complaints then there is no one who would need to judge about it.
In times where a lot of communities (such as facebook and other major social networks) don’t lay much interest on privacy - i think its at least good to know that there is something like this still valid. Everyone has its own right to have his private stuff protected. And if someone don’t want to be mentioned for any reason then its not allowed to mention him (generally).
Asking for permission has nothing to do with privacy in my eyes - that would fall under the term copyright. Both are two different things.
Mostly - nowadays - people might be happy to see their stuff used. But in any case the author don’t want that you use his stuff you have to remove it. But that may differ between the countries and their laws. You could add a phrase that you are sorry if you have forgotten someone to mention in your credits and you are open to receive the names of the author by PM, mail whatever
