Wacom Intuos4 Tablets…anyone know a fix?
-
Hello~ I’m very new to this game, and after having problem after problem after problem, I am finally able to play online with friends, and play in general without having all of the text and graphics go WOOOOOOGABOOGA all over the screen like a rabid …[d]I spent twenty minutes trying to think of a word to put here[/d] on crack. However, using a laptop touch pad to play this game is a little… meh.
Now, being an aspiring artist, I have played many games using my USB drawing tablet. Some of them work beautifully, some of them require some sort of file or unofficial patch to get them to work correctly. Freelancer is one of those games that doesn’t seem to want to agree with my pen tablet. Mouse flight becomes pretty useless when it thinks your cursor is bouncing around like another rabid whatchamacallit on crack.
The thing is, typing “Freelancer Intuos4” or “Freelancer Tablet” or “Freelancer game tablet” into Google completely changes the meaning of freelancer. Gosh darn you, Microsoft… naming a game after a common noun.
Has anyone had this problem before, as well as the patience to go through all of those pointless Google results? Or am I doomed to using this horrible, horrible touchpad? xD; (It’s actually not that bad, I’d just prefer something better.)
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Not here, have you thought of simply getting a $5 USB mouse and play? It works great

I would, if I had a flat surface to use it on. xD;
I’m in the process of moving in with my mom (no, I’m not a 42 year-old unemployed vampire, I’m a student… lol), and I’m pretty much confined to a roll out bed in the living room. orz
It really doesn’t bother me that much at the moment, but it might. I’m just not sure. If nothing else, maybe I’ll ask my stepdad if he has a spare and find something that I can use it on… just, ugh. I like my tablet xD;
(by the way, EVERYONE asks me about “orz”… it’s a hunched over, depressed stick figure from the side. No, I didn’t make it up > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoticon#Orz)
Thank you for your suggestion, though!

Understandable, I usually use a hard cover book, a clipboard is even better since it’s alot lighter.
I have a touchpad as well thats 14" x 14", tried it with FL, wasn’t easy to play at all though.

Hmm, guess I’ll have to look into that. I do have this weird… big giant… plastic surface thingy with a soft bean cushion doodlebob that’s supposed to be for drawing in the car (I never use it though) …maybe that will be my temporary desk?
-shrugs-
…woah, wait… 14" x 14"? A square? o . o

Haha, if you’re talking about the tablet, then yes… it is pretty nice. It’s my wonderful little baby
My only problem is that it’s too “advanced” to just be taken as a simple mouse-like input device. My old one had nothing but a right click button, a double click button, a scroll wheel and back and forward buttons… so it was pretty simple and just derp derp.
This one… it’s much more complex. You can set each of the six shortcut buttons/four scroll wheel functions/stylus buttons to pretty much anything you want, as well as assign different settings for these to different applications. You can even have it open an application 55273592 times on a single click, if you wanted to! And while that’s uber cool, it’s just like… “can I just get it to work like a normal mouse like my old one, kthx?” Maybe I’ll look inside the tablet settings and see if there’s something I can do. But…yeah.
hey guys i’m procrastinating!

What about a bluetrack mouse, not cheap I doubt but work on carpet or pretty much any surface, like a roll out bed for example.

Um, there are two modes a tablet can use. One is “Mouse Mode”, which leaves the cursor in the same position your pen left the surface. The other (which is likely why the game spazzes out) picks up the pointer wherever the pen touches down. It’s adjustable in the Wacom driver utility. Curious though, you didn’t also get a mouse with your tablet? Even my crappy little Bamboo came with one.
