Installation issue

1000 apologies if this has been covered somewhere before, but I couldn’t find anything, so here goes…
I’m trying to install FL on my PC (XP SP3). It has well over and above (and beyond) the minimum recommended spec. I have disabled all Av etc., gotten rid of the 5 virtual drives I had set up under Alcohol 52%, and basically done everything I can think of to get it to install.
It gets to 46% and then reports back ‘Setup encountered an error writing to file C:\Program Files…etc’ blah blah ‘Make sure that the Hard disk is not full or the file is in use’.
I’m at a loss. Has anyone come across this before?
Any help greatly appreciated.
It ran well enough on my old laptop, provided I sat it up on 3 upturned glasses to stop it from crashing due to heat build-up XD

Are you using an adminstrator account?

Your cd gettin old? or drive a bit ratty?..
I know i get that with some games from time to time… for me its my crappy cd/dvd drive… try installing over a network using another PC’s drive… that always works for me, you can just put the cd back in your PC’s drive to play then… as it obviously accepts the disk just craps out half way through.
-
You could also try copying the contents of the disk to a folder on your drive and install it from there. You would still need the CD in the drive to play the game, but if your disk is spotty during install, perhaps this might be a workaround.

oh and just for the record… my “ratty” drive came with this PC… is less than 2 years old… and has never successfully played a DVD in its life…
Sometimes they just mess up… it don’t matter if its brand new or 6 yrs old… the one i use to install over Network is about 8yrs… and hasn’t missed a beat since day1…
How did the USB DVD install go??

Wouldn’t happen to be a Sony DVD drive Xarian?

Lite-On DH-16A6S <- Ive tried every fix i have found… it just hates being a DVD drive… and 7/10 CD’s will fail during install… why it came with the PC i’ll never know.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I think I see the problem. My laptop had a DVD drive that had a spindle you popped the CD/DVD onto, and the underside of my FL CD is all scratched - badly. I tried copying the CD with Alcohol 52%, but it got read errors. It appears to be the files in CAB2.CAB that are affected, so I’m downloading a torrent and hoping that I can install from that. I also hope that the original CD will still play the game, otherwise I’ll have to buy a new one. Shouldn’t cost much though these days.

You might have a success if you clean your disk, maybe also with special tools for that.
Also, if possible, you could try to read the CD with a different cd device (tower pc maybe?) and install via network or install it at another computer and draw the data to your laptop. -

I had a lite-on as well, it failed.
Won’t buy them again.

Hehe… that was my 1st step chips… changing the SATA port was the second (as my PC uses some funky raid setup via bios)… i went deep… realy deep into everything… so much so i ended up screwing up my boot sequence somehow (bad fix… hmm) and had to reload my OS…
I too will NEVER by anything from Lite-on agian… or Acer for that matter… they put this POS in my PC… i wonder if they ever actually tested it… judging by the serious lack of customer support and drivers for both PC and DVD drive… i doubt it
I do well over my lan, bit slow and i need to go find .exe cracks for everything (that uses a dvd) but i don’t play much besides FL & Fallout3… so im sweet… would be nice to watch the odd movie of this PC though…
Now… im gonna say this because this guy has given it good go…
For you sir… After that bad bad ugly torrent comes down… If you run into problems… PM me… There’s probably about 3 or 4 ways to fix anything that dll messes up (i recall a post about dlld torrent version & bad missions about a week ago… not sure if that was ere…)I only do THAT… because the man has a disc… and he’s tryed the other ways… please DONOT flood me with “me too” emails… you will just be ignored
