Timeline, Background Story Info etc. from Original Game

The Story of Freelancer plays approximatly in year 800 A.S. (after Sirius).
Afair it was 798…If you read the Liberty text AS means ‘After Settlement’ and not ‘After Sirius’. It can’t be that because the game is set in Sirius. Thought i’d clear that up

Actually no one knows where is the Sirius Sector located and what is the exact Earth date in SP…And this is when the mods come. The mods could follow the canon storyline and couldn’t. ATM ie. I am working on a mod where you will have a completely non-canon alternate storyline even timeline with no DK but other major race and races, with completely different nomads and using the extended intro as canon…and why not? IMO modders can do anything with the vanilla as long as it makes sense.

Wow, what a response!! Thank you guys!! I’m still going thru all the posts.
Cool thing there were eight sleeper ship, as I have 3 new houses in the planning (and the Hispania of course). Not thay it wouldn’t have mattered. The canonical story can always be explained as ‘incomplete’, or the other houses came a few decades later or whatever. But this fits nicely.
Btw I once read that story that the Nomads blew up the sun, but thought it was fan fiction, not canonical.
Okay back to reading.
EDIT and I figured that AS meant “Anno Sirii” or whatever the correct Latin for “Sirius Years”. But it simply means After Settlements

@ RSabatino: Thanks for the movies!! Also, I got to see other movies by following the links, some of the very funny.
@ Adoxa: Thanks for the savegame! Yeah the ‘movie’ I meant is in fact a collection of stills, shown while the Rheinland theme is playing. Thanks for pointing me to the location.
Btw the movie is one of the ones RSabatino posted. So, it’s in the game files. Never knew that, I’ve always skipped the movies by commenting them out (thought they were just DA/MS logos and an SP intro)
@ Gibbon: thanks man. Especially your 2nd post was exactly the kind of thing I was after
Btw while I’m reading, I am listening to a playlist I made some years ago from the game soundtrack: all the “space” themes of the various Houses and space areas (but not the danger and battle parts). In order: Liberty, Bretonia, Independent Worlds, Rheinland, Kusari, Tau, Sigma, Omega, Omicron, each theme repeated three times. It’s nothing special as it’s just the music you here while flying thru space, but if anyone cares, I’ve uploaded it here (RAR archive, about 64MB, playtime 52:45 minutes). The game’s music is astonishing, imho, and one of the game’s main attractions.
Okay, reading on again.

500 A.S.
The Texas Incident.
[…]
The jump gate
itself sank into a monstrous singularity that still hangs at the edge of the Texas, an
evil, swirling eye, that casts its gaze upon the wasteland of Houston. Is this really to be seen in Texas, in-game?? Can’t remember having ever seen anything like this, not in-game and not in Li04.ini. But maybe it is included in the Li04_starsphere?
-
Btw it’s nice to see where the nicknames for the factions came from, their final forms (as we know them in-game) being quite different from their original concept names.
NutraForm, Inc > co_ni_grp = Synth Foods
Monumental Engineering > co_me_grp = Deep Space Engineering
Valhalla Research > co_vr_grp = Ageira
etc.

Interesting, never seen that alternative intro movie before. If you listen carefully, right at the end, the final bit of music is from the movie predator, which might be intentional on their part, as it is fitting. Can it be downloaded from anywhere in it’s original condition? Be nice to use it.

Yes, they are called the Pequena Negra and Grande Negra…these are the black clouds. Read the descriptions.

I know of these clouds and their origin.
The history refered to a “singularity” still there, i.o.w. a very small, dense object “like an evil eye”. I asked whether such a thing can actually be seen in the System.
EDIT or rather I remarked I never saw it (subtle difference). I don’t think there is such a thing, or it should be in the background starsphere.

There’s always those bloody shiny anomalies like van pelt or whatever his name was studying on baxter research station before he got blown to kingdom come. Start with something like that and maybe muck about with the ALE if you can to beef it up a bit, then throw some wreckage around it. Should suffice for a disaster scene. But then again, I doubt many people would go sight seeing in Texas.

Yeah the black_hole archetype looks cool, but as there is no gravity in FL, and no involuntary jumpholes (where the player would “autodock” if too close) it’s a bit lame to use it… Maybe a drag_modifier zone around it is the next best thing to simulate it.

What about just a SKAPOWSH BOOM zone?EDIT: By that I mean a death zone would simulate a black hole due to gravitational pull.
Nah, that wouln’t do justice to the mystique of a black hole… It should be a passage, imho. In game-terms, it should be a special kind of wormhole.
In fact, a wormhole corresponds to the theoretical concept of what physicists call a ‘white hole’. A black hole always means death to travellers ending up in it. So, a “Skapowsh Boom” zone would be realistic, also because black holes will be surrounded by a magnetic field, radiation etc.
But that would be kinda disappointing, in-game.
Actually I was already thinking of giving each and every ordinary wormhole in Sirius (im my mod) a moderate radiation damage zone… It’s a bit all too easy to use them as the game is now, especially as the description says Ageira advises against using them.
That means a black hole should be dressed up to stress its rareness. I think that’ll be a fun task
-
Agiera probably advises against using them for commercial reasons, jumpgates and the tradelane network are made with their technology.
