Nomads show up, fight for a few seconds, and then disappear

While outside the unknown jumpholes (either side) in both gamma and alpha, nomad fighter wings will show up, attack, and after engaging for a few seconds will just shoot off and disappear. It’s not lag related and so far there are no reports of it happening with other NPCs.

I’m gonna check the zones for any oddities, but does anyone have any suggestions on what I should be focussing on?
