Custom Bars
-
Hello. I’m looking to model a few custom bars for freelancer. I can find nothing online about poly limits or texture map sizes. Can anyone help me out?
I was also looking for the Modder’s Handbook and can’t find it. The wiki on both this and Lancersreactor seem to be pretty much empty. Can someone point me in the right direction. Google was no use.

The bar is mostly programmed with THN (look for a good tutorial) and the model can be any model.
If you have experience with modeling rooms, you can make your own bar room, and then just take example from other bars’ THNs and create one that matches your bar.One important element of a bar is the view of the things outside of it (starsphere, nebula or planet/cityscape) you can see from a big window. Oh, and don’t forget the seats and a place for the bartender!
Good luck!

Hi Tadir,
Glad to have you at TSP.
In regards to your question, models can be completed in either Milkshape or 3ds Max and converted into the format that Freelancer reads models (.cmp/.3db) through an exporter for each respective program. In terms of polygon limits, .cmps are limited by approximately 18k poly, roughly. Anything more and Freelancer will throw a fit!
To make a bar, I suggest you use a vanilla Freelancer bar .cmp model as a reference (found in your freelancer\data\base*faction name here). You can download the .cmp importer at TSP for milkshape and import the model into the program. From there you can save it into any file format you wish, particularly if you’re more comfortable using 3ds Max.
If you find it easier, I can do the conversion of a bar for you and host it up here?

Thank you for the replies and information. I work in 3D Studio Max. If you really feel like doing a conversion and hosting it here, that would be great, but I have no problem doing it myself. I was mainly looking for the polycount information. A huge amount can be done with 18k polygons. At work, for our engine, we usually have to keep entire buildings under 7k.
And just for kicks, here are some examples of my stuff.

Attached is one of the bars to use as a example. Let me know if you have any other issues.
