Mod/server reviews?
-
Hi!
Since this is THE site all about modding and adminstrating Freelancer - How about an area (forums?) for writing reviews?
Oh, and some minor issue in the profile section: If you select your avatar from your locale files, you must click at the UPPER submit button. The one at the buttom doesn’t work for that.
Plus, could you display the FL servers beneath each post?

The trouble with reviews is that the community here is small enough that you’re bound to end up with people stepping on each other’s toes and bad feelings about negative reviews. I think it’d be a big source of flame wars and other such niceties, hence why we haven’t pursued such a thing.
Plus, reviews tend to be done by players and (apparently) we have none of them, so I can bet you there would be as many reviews as there are news posts.

WEll, some players we have here. I don’t say that we have many, but for instance eh…there is me °-°
And at least some newbees as well (look at introductions)You could add the rule that no one is allowed to review his own mod/server.

While it definitely could be a good resource for players looking for a place to call home, as it were, it is open for a large amount of abuse.
Easy to flame a mod or point out only it’s bad points, which to a newcomer would paint it in a bad light; first impressions are often difficult to dispel.
The sort of impartiality it requires for moderation is not something that can easily be handed to the Starport admins, given they themselves are modders. It’s too easy for the entire system to be called into question when those that run it will have an obvious bias.
Note: I’m not intending to cast the TSP admins in a bad light here, as much as it may come off as such. Simply that if this is to be done, it should probably be hosted by a third party that has no investment in the development of any mods that may be featured in the reviews.

Problem becomes then that just about all people who are involved with Freelancer and its community are either modders or players. You’ll have a very, very hard time finding somebody impartial.
Which is why I’m very uncertain about this.

Yep, I’m with FF on this. I don’t think it would add much to the site and would be more trouble than it’s worth.

Ha, same here (CF and a few other mods/servers I won’t mention here).
I’m gonna have to agree with FF. Plus, it’s not like playing on servers is an investment. Why not just try them all and see what suits you?

Mod Reviews is something that doesnt suit this site if you ask me. Besides the fact that it hasnt proper measures in place to secure the voting (no mod member can review its own mod).
Next to that reviews and rating mods is possible on Moddb already. Thats the site i am also looking for mods - mostly there tho. So it wouldnt be the worst idea to present mod work also there - because actually there are also other players looking for info - not only already known Freelancer gamers.
Really guys - this site is quite OK if you ask me. Concentrate on the stuff here. Thats the reason i am hitting up this site.
