New to Freelancer - Setup Help Please

I am new to this game, but very interested in it as I was a big Wing Commander fan and love these types of games.

I have read a lot of different sites, but am a bit overwhelmed as to what I need to do to get up and running well.

I have two configurations I am going to run on:

1. Dell Latitude D630 @ 1440x900 - Win7 x64
2. Custom Intel Core i7 @ 1680x1050 - Win7 x64

For now I just want the best SP experience while I get familiar with the game, and then I will venture out onto the MP mods. I understand some tweaking is required for widescreen, but the tweaks that I have tried worked on my desktop fine, but the laptop cuts off the top and bottom even when set to 1440x900 correctly (as far as I can tell).

Any and all help is appreciated. I feel I did my best to search out my answers, but I am hoping that an experienced player can help narrow down what I need to be looking at to get going successfully. Thank you in advance.

What did you choose to use for the time being?

I would suggest you read up this thread:

It has a lot of information on the matter. If you’re using JFLP, as long as it’s configured properly on both it should run fine considering they’re of the same aspect ratio (16:10).

I have not chosen anything as of yet. I tried to manually edit the files as outlined in the Wiki, but I did not get it to work correctly. Is JFLP the best way to go for this?

Most people would agree that it is, yeah. You can get it on adoxa’s page:

Grab the DLL and follow the instructions contained therein, you should do fine. If it still doesn’t work, get HUDShift and use the instructions found in that thread I linked above.

Ok, I appreciate the help, but I am not getting anywhere with this. I installed JFLP and now have the widescreen options, but how to I get the HUDShift to work?

Finally got it, although the mouse lags on the laptop for some reason. Thanks for the help guys!

OS: V or 7?

I recall that it might have to do something with VSync. Try either to deactivate or activate it, I am not sure about it.
