Newb Faction / Hostile Planet Question
-
Hello all, new to these forums, new to the game.
In SP, just finished mission 7 i believe, just got access to the kusari system. First thing I did was grab a big arse dromedary and tried a trade route. something like sheffield to new london, to manhattan (for lux food 190ish -> 1200 or something).
Anyway, all worked well until i got new LA / NY / COLORADO, where apparently all the liberty anything hates me, all the gates / planets / jumps here are hostile red, everything trys to kill me (which is fine, i dominate them) but i cannot land on man/denver/LA to sell these lux.
Is this because of where I am in the story? Or did i do something dumb? 99.99% of the bar missions i do are for liberty im pretty sure, so i dont get it. How can I get them to like me and land/use these routes? Bribes? Continue Story? Missions? Kill me all? I just wanna laaaand.
Thanks all - DiscoStu

The game opens up once you complete the storyline, letting you alter your reputation as you see fit from that point on.

It might be possible to fix your reputation with Liberty at this stage in the campaign. I replayed the campaign around a month ago and noticed that during Mission 4 your reputation goes to full red with Liberty factions, all the way up to the unreachable tenth bar (which I’m pretty sure means nothing you do can change your reputation.) However after I finished the mission I checked the reputations list again and Liberty had gone down to the normal nine bars full hostile.
So it may be possible to become friendly with Liberty at this stage, though when you choose to continue the storyline the campaign will automatically reset your reputations. It’s probably easier to trade around Liberty instead.

It’s up to you, but I wouldn’t waste your time buying freighters and trading during the storyline. Progression in the story is dependant on you earning x amount of cash to activate the next story mission. You shouldn’t need to do more than 3 or 4 missions to trigger the next chapter and you really don’t want to be flying a freighter during a story mission. Plenty of time to trade and explore later.
