FL Model tool.

I got a question, well maybe a few. I’m making cmp based planets and using the model tool. Whats the max size for it? Basically the planets don’t show their names when scrolling over them, like sph. models do, unless you hit the very center. Or if you click on the name of it in the Hud. Is this normal? Is there a fix to it? Or do I have to stick to sph. models?

I think you need a sphere sur file of the same size as the CMP or you’ll fly right through the planetary “surface”.
Another aspect worth mentioning is the ratio of texture size to planet size, if you double the planet’s diameter you have 4 times the surface area to texture. To get visible improvements in texture resolution with double size planets (10000 diameter) you need 4096x4096 textures with file sizes of around 25 mb.

Good to know, CK256. Though I haven’t been able to make one using th newest sur builder, but anyway thats what I wasn’t asking. Here’s some pics to show what I mean:

This is what I want it to do, show the name when you scroll over it like the sph. based planet in the background.http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n240/Alucard1_01/screen4-5.png
But this is what I get no name, no nothing till I click on it in the hud. -
I had a look at the CMP planet stuff I put together a few months ago and it looks like the sur also does the scroll over ID as well as the collision detection.
Screen 31 has a sur file but 32 doesn’t, I’ve added a zipped sur file as well, 9000 diameter but it can be resized with FLTool.
