Windows 7 problem
-
Ok, here is my problem. I am using an ASUS N71 series laptop, with windows 7 installed. I am having problem running Freelancer, which is annoyingly persistent.
Freelancer installs fine (meaning no errors), but when I actually try to play, I am unable to do so. Freelancer.exe dosen’t run at all, dosen’t even register as a task in task manager (i don’t even notice a process Freelancer.exe in process list). Freelancer server amazingly works fine (at least I think so, it certanly runs). Freelancer is not the first game i’ve had this problem with, it happened with Vice city as well (other games, like Sid Meier’s Civilisation III, Skyrim and The old republic, to name a few work without problems).
Things I tried.
Followed Freelancer installer to a letter.
Installing it in different directory (I always instal to anyway)
Disabling all apps that could interefere (AdAware and SpybotSD disabled, BitDefender on GameMode; it would throw out a warning if it would block it anyway)
Disabled DEP for Freelacner.exe
Updated graphics driver

Maybe old savegames. Freelancer loads them on startup and crahes if you have e.g. a mod installed where certain things don’t exists (or broken files etc).

Solved the problem.
It seems there wasn’t a problem in game itself, but rather with windows OS. I solved the problem by picking a tip from Microsoft community, to run sfc.exe, to cehck system files for problems. System file checker found some problems and fixed them and now FL works fine.
