Error 522 when contacting discoverygc.com
-
Hello,
I just don’t know where to ask so I came here. Since yesterday the DsLauncher won’t start and, worse, everything of discoverygc.com seems to be gone. In this case I get a “error 522” all the time. I asked a friend with a different provider to check things out and he gets the same error.
Anyone has an idea what is going on?
Thank you for any information!
Kind regards, Ruud Baltissen

You can manually connect to the alternate servers. http://discovery-usa.forumotion.com/ has some info as the server is running with players on it.

Check the twitter to get info:

Seems like they are in a similar situation like we here at TSP were last year: HDD failure. According to twitter they have a recent backup for the gameserver, but hope they also have a backup for the forums. I wonder why they run both on the same machine though…
Lesson to learn: Have a good backup solution and also monitor your server HDDs for warning signs. Normally, HDDs dont fail from one day to the other, but rather gradually wear down.

Uhhh… Lazy admins. (Like me

That doesn’t prevent hardware failures.

They most likely do have support to replace damaged drives, but most of those servers are unmanaged, so they won’t monitor drives for possible damage. The hard part is recovering the data now that the drives have crashed, not getting a new server running.

Ive had multiple HDD failures with my servers and thats always troublesome.
Webservers usually can rely on raid but even then it takes a good amount of time until all data is back after a HDD replacement (most likely several days if there is lots of data).
Root server in most cases require to do manual backups (most root servers come with a ftp backup server). If backups were taken then there is a good chance to restore everything with minimal loss.
Im pretty sure people are already working on it to get everything back online.
