Dumb question

So when I started to play the game again a month ago, I could not get my old cd version to work with my windows 10 lappy, so I went and down loaded the RG Mechanics verson 2003 and it worked so I have been playing story line with it.

If I am going to join one of the servers listed here in the port, do I need to uninstall that one and go with the one you recommend? Asking before I find out the hard way. Just trying to avoid screwing anything up.
