What is meant by MGS in FLSpew
-
Hello everybody,
I have one question about notice line in FLSpew.txtC:\work\builds\dalibs\dalibs-build\build\Src\RenderPipeline\DX8\rp_dx8.cpp(1126) : NOTICE:General:MGS: Unknown hardware
What is meant by “MGS” in DirectX??
I was search for it on the web, but I found only Metal Gear Solid game elements and FLSpew posts without explanation what is MGS.
I just working on renewal for the flconfigdatabase.txt
Thanks for any answers. -

Since it looks like it was chosen by the developers it could be something simple like “Main Graphics System”, but this is just a guess.
-
This can be that too but the world of acronym is really vast that it can’t be 100 % sure. As there is DX8 before, it’s highly possible that’s it.

Thanks for all replyes, but I thinks that all isn’t useful for me.
maybe Schmackbolzen’s suggestion with “Main Graphics System” but, what is it?
I added mine graphic card into the flconfigdatabase.txt and game found it…C:\work\builds\dalibs\dalibs-build\build\Src\RenderPipeline\DX8\rp_dx8.cpp(1019) : NOTICE:General:found d3d device nVidia GeForce GT 630M C:\work\builds\dalibs\dalibs-build\build\Src\RenderPipeline\DX8\rp_dx8.cpp(1126) : NOTICE:General:MGS: Unknown hardware
but still don’t find MGS. “Unknown hardware” means, it can’t find the vendor too and I know graphic vendor
from flconfigdatabase.txt:
Vendor = 0x14Af "Guillemot" Vendor = 0x10b4 "nVidia" Vendor = 0x12d2 "nVidia" Vendor = 0x10de "nVidia" 0x0DE9 = "GeForce GT 630M" ========================= ========================= /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // // UnknownHardware // ////////////////////////////////////////////////// Vendor = unknown unknown = "**UNIDENTIFIED**" UnknownHardware break
Any ideas?

you could try (make a backup)
For some reason I never had any problems with graphic cards.
I had multiple cards over the years and I am very sure that none of them were listed in that file.If I remember correctly I just clicked ok when FL told me that my device couldnt be detected but then the game launched.

It is true what you say OP-R8R, The game works without graphic and vendor IDs in most cases, but I’m making advanced DX shaders for Freelancer using by post-process injector. When I add my graphic card into the “flconfigdatabase.txt” so I have more Frames Per Second in the game, order of 5-10 FPS.
Here is a video from my old game concept with DX shaders.

Did you apply this?
I know you said you are renewing it, just wondering if you are perhaps working from an older copy.
http://the-starport.net/freelancer/download/singlefile.php?cid=1&lid=2I know it’s included in some patches, Quickfix and JFLP probably.

Sorry PadL but you lose a big amount of detail in low and high lights. You are just changing Brightness/Contrast, you should change only the Gamma. Making an S-curve can make the same effect without any loss of details, and if you remain losing details, you can adjust Brightness and Contrasts. But I don’t know if you can do this via the post-processor. May you send me a PM with the shader wrapper? Please? Just to see if I can do something. Or you have done what I said?

This already was in the first link from Freestalker.fr and I think it does not make much sense.
-
It just looks more like a subcategory (namespace or class). But it’s just a guess anyway.

XD
Bolte, I used flconfigdatabase.txt from here on starting with this and I using all patches…
Freestalker.fr, This video is 2 years old from my first Destiny of Sol project and I just offset lights and etc.
adoxa, you are right! I think that MGS is Microsoft Game Studios too, but what is it? is it DirectX version what GFX using? or what? XD becouse I have DX8 sdk in my PC
NVM, thanks for the discussion -
well, no matter which DX you have installed… its backward compatible.
FL is a DX8 game thats why it is mentioning dx8dunno about the unknown hardware stuff
like already suggested a problem with the flconfigdatebase
I personally never had any problems, no matter on which PC i did run FL.
Main question is if FL is running for you at all. If so then ignore that error message.
If not then try to add your graphic card to the flconfigdatabase and see what happens. -
The entire flconfigdatabase is basically irrelevant today. I don’t know why so many people are so laser focused on it. It was used to make FL compatible with GPUs which didn’t support all D3D8 features correctly back in the day.
This is no longer an issue. Any GPU made since Freelancer was released is going to have all features FL needs and far more besides. Stop it. It’s a useless file.

even better
