Advice needed
-
Ok so it’s been quite a few years since I last played freelancer and would like to know if anybody on here could tell me what would be the ideal laptop/pc specs to be able to play freelancer on today (2020) the laptop I used to play it on went to the scrappers a long time ago and I never got round to replacing it but lately I have been wanting to scratch this freelancer itch again and get back into it but from what I understand most modern laptop/pc specs won’t run it because of the OS,one review I looked at recommended a 12 yr old system so any advise on what would run it and where I could possibly buy it from would be appreciated,I might also be willing to look into one being custom made for the job if that is at all possible but again any advise welcome,I am in the UK so it would have to be from here obviously lol, also if this is not in the right thread I apologise, all advise greatfully recieved.

Actually you don´t need another “outdated” System to play Freelancer.

one thing to mention about windows 10… you need to use the no-cd Freelancer.exe as win10 misses the drivers required for the copy protection of the original game.

Thx for the replies I appreciate it,so from what you are saying does it mean it would run on a newer system but it needs to be on win 10,hopefully that’s what you mean I’ve not dabbled in pc stuff for quite a long time as I went over to the dark side…consoles

You´re welcome mate.
And… NO !
Freelancer runs happily even on Windows 64Bit-OS´s more recent than XP… like Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 and 10 if you follow the steps and hints in my linked post (above).
Its very unlikely that these tips/steps won’t help you to become a “Freelancer One-Dash-One” again… so have fun and welcome back from “the dark side”.Greetings

I spoke to my daughters B/F he’s quite a wizz with all things pc I showed him your link and he pretty much had freelancer up and running on his pc within minutes and that’s win 10 so thank you for your advice and the link,he’s going to ask a friend who might have a spare laptop that I can buy and he said he could set it up for me if I needed him too,the site he used for the d/l was called myabandonware.com so just need the laptop and I’m heading back into freelancer for the next few years
