And as you say not all software gives the same or meaningful message. Luckily for when I was starting out, IrfanView does. Then I found out that only a couple of dds editors actually work reliably. That was a long trial and error session.

The quickest way is to look at the file contents in the ASCII window when you click on the MIPS or MIP0 or other image node in UTF editor - a .dds file has “DDS” as its first 3 characters.

Right - you are embarking on a tricky task, so watch out for the following:-

bad texture naming can cause two dissimilar ships to blur, fade, swap texture blocks, or exhibit other weird texture behaviour if they share the same texture name and they come in sight of each other in the game.

the ship icon in the ship dealer can change to the original one if you don’t create a correct new one for your new ship but use the other and just import a new image and rename the icon - you have to fix the hashcodes in the icon.

upside down textures - if you copied a .tga and converted it to .dds you may have to “uninvert”

Sry, StarTrader, atm MediaFire seems better IMO. Files are accessible (only needed captcha this time) and files are not deleted. Fileswap does delete files if they are not downloaded around 6 months at all (I get a warning to save this files - see attachment) and download speed is limited - so not recommended for bigger files.

Dropbox is still best (forgot pass for it) with seems no ads and rest annoying things, but who knows for how long.

Keep in mind that with last Pip3r’s exporter, the Root group (Main group) in MS has to be named with the same name as it will be exported to .cmp. Otherwise I got an error that parameters (i think) is incorrect!

Be careful making the planets bigger in vanilla fl, it will cause crashes due to them encroaching into patrol paths and zones etc.

You need your new icon first, of course and load it up into your alternate exe file. It may very well be, that your desktop shortcuts do not change instantly, but I’ll just assume you know how to update them and fix the bug.

I never even thought about performance impact. I’ll have to take that to mind when I start changing stuff around. Either way, thx for the help.

Nebulas are suckers. You have to be careful not to diverge too far from the average FL vanilla’s settings. Asteroid fields are much more flexible (I can remember a guy found out you can have up to nine Asteroid Fields overlapping - maybe this is capacity-related; I never felt the need to overlap more than three). Overlapping Nebulas will render weird stuff (like your ship being invisible - I didn’t do any additional research so I don’t know about NPC ships or other players’ ships in MP)

About names on map(“SIRIUS SECTOR”, “RHEILAND” etc). They’re all inside resource.dll, open it with reshacker and find by name, then modify or replace with space to get them disappeared.

ge_rf_engine_01 = the lightfighter one
ge_re_engine_01 = the heavyfighter one
ge_rfr_engine_01 = the frieghter one

It may sound stupid, but you should use the Search function of this forum.
There is at least one thread about this, and no, you shouldn’t need any special coding for custom starspheres (and if, it’s extremely easy).
