how much bandwith does freelancer server use in a month anybody know?
-
Its hard to calculate that per server/mod also playing styles (RP server or purely pvp server) makes a difference on the bandwidth.
I once heard that a real heavy server like Hamburg City costs around 40GB a month just on their FL server. So if your looking for a hoster and want to be safe, get one on a minimum of 50gb a month considering updates RDP connections to manage the box and possible FTP mod uploads and downloads when you want to install a mod update on your server.
Also make sure the hoster doesn’t cut your connection when you pass that 50GB but let it float along and send you a bill per extra GB used. -
no im hosting it myself . the main reason is comcast my isp is stsrting to go after people who 250gigs amonth so if hamburg city only uses 40 then im ok.
-
Comcast is a cable provider, not?
probably a max of 1 or 2 mbit upload, you don’t have to worry a single bit if you have that.
-
ok thanks laot brother good flying out there. watch for the nomads.

We use up to 400 GB per month for the flserver alone. But we have lots of PvP, which contributes a lot to the high traffic.
-
Our monthly traffic pends between 25-40GB
-
We use over 200GB per month.
I know this cause we get 200GB free, then have to pay for the additional Bandwidth after 200GB -

i have a small server so i dont think it takes up that much. well i will soon find out in october.

These numbers might be interesting for you. RP server, less PvPs, more chatter…;)

At peak times (above 190 players) it consumes around 2Mb/3Mb (download/upload).

Only 2 to 3 mbit? on 190 players? thats not too bad or am i talking rubbish here.
Would atleast expected around 10 mbit constant stream on 190 players cos even than its only like 50k per person, than again the game was developed when 90% of the US still had some AOL dialup link on 56k ;D. -
Yeah, FL does not use a lot of bandwidth in “normal” situations.
But bandwidth usage explodes as soon as a lot of players gather in one place and a lot is going on there.
We have almost half the playercount of Discovery but use only 10-20% less bandwidth -

Yes, that’s right and if I remember correctly, you limit NPC spawning much sooner than us. 30ms load it is? We currently have it set to 60/80 (start/stop spawning). So you probably should have less NPC activity as well.
Regarding that (sorry for OT) I have a question whether it’s possible to temporarily limit NPC spawning for a certain system only? In FLHook I mean. It could help during some events not to have 20 NPCs messing around, causing lag to players from distant locations or with weak connection.
