So on a whim I decided to redo missiles again. They are now even more Ace Combat than they were before.
I also fixed something else that really used to bug me. When a missile hits its target, the explosion effect flights right through the target and keeps on going. This no longer happens.
Sauce (Also known as download link)
Also, for those that want the capital ship asplosion, the file for that is here
As usual, if you want to use these, go ahead. Just give me a heads up and credit me in the readme/site/wherever.

Nice ^^ but this is the real Ace Combat.
air Combat i know, but me and me dad spent hours playing this… head to head ofc xD

Because I just can’t leave the suckers alone…
I had tried earlier to create a “volume” looking texture similar to what you see in the Ace Combat screens, but could not because the missile trails all had random rotations applied to their particles. I noticed yesterday morning that the fire effect when your heavily damaged has no random rotation applied to it. I looked into it and found that setting Motion_Blur = True will lock the particles orientation to “up.” So now, missiles have their own unique texture (missilesmoke, located in the smoke.txm), and look much more voluminous.
As usual, Download Here

thats amazing O.o

I totally spamming this thread.
New torpedo effects, inspired by EVE Online. I figured out a way to very cleverly fake the flares that EVE uses, and put it to good use. Note, the effect is actually pretty big too, I am a good distance away from the torpedoes in the screenshots.
Download Link Here Same rules as usual. Free to use, just let me know.

No U’re not spamming…
Spamm is useless and your work is far from being useless.
Keep the good work, I’ve tested all your effects so far and they all look awesome!!!Edit: Thanks so much for sharing your work, i will include them earlier or later into New Universe and write u into the credits once your effects are added.
I wish more people would share their work like u -
Well, I’m working on a nuke explosion at the moment, and I’ve done a quick recolour of a Rheinland engine to make an ion engine. It’s nothing compared to what Why485 and others have done, but I’ll post some images as soon as I’m fairly happy with it/finished figuring out things.
Also, awesome work Why!

It’s ok for everyone to use the effects. Thank you for the heads up.
I updated the homing missile effects now to use the new flame trails and stuff.
This has been my latest project. Something I have been wanting to do for a long time now. Basically, what when there is a battle, the local space gets filled with dust. In very heavy and concentrated bouts, you can actually practically create your own localized field.
This is a very difficult effect to take screenshots of, as it is a fairly subtle effect most of the times. The only way to actually really take screenshots of it is to really go out of your way to cause and create it, so with the exception of the first screenshot, what you see is the most extreme example of me pounding away at the station for a minute.
I’ve been further tweaking the effect. I also added debris to the mix. The debris actually caused no noticeable performance hit. Go figure.
The effect is pretty subtle, and doesn’t show up too well in YouTube. It is most noticeable around the 2:20 and onward mark though. I may put up a downloadable version on Filefront. I highly reccommend you go to YouTube actual and watch it with the HD option.

That’s because it doesn’t have a proper explosion yet…
Torpedoes in Flak are very mean things, they are supposed to stand out and be super dangerous. If it’s really that big of a deal feel free to modify the effect. Long as I get credit for the original it’s all good. After starting doing programming-ish stuff I have a new appreciation for open source anything.

Indeed. Shooting down torpedoes is a biggie in 88 Flak, and having them this big makes it very clear where to shoot when you’re flying anti-torp escort for a carrier.
