@Microsoft Fan Site links - topic

Then why doesn’t everyone ask Microsoft to add the links?
We’ve worked hard to get the list updated. We repeatedly mentioned other sites in different emails (I know I dragged on for at least 6 months and had all the sites listed, not just SP). That they only kept SP, TLR and LHQ is not exactly our fault. We did our best and are already glad we actually GOT there.
The next step is to get more sites on there, but I don’t believe the SP staff should be the sole responsible for this daunting task. We’ve managed to get on there; we made a precedent. Now it’s up to everyone to team up, not just SP, not just SWAT, not just FLC, everyone, and get more people on the fansite list.
But can’t we just celebrate a bit? Isn’t this a major milestone? We proved we could get them to update the page of a 6 year-old game!

i just stated my oppinion based on what is good for the FL community considering the amount of visitors on the microsoft site and the very different FL communities
I wont continue to discuss about it since the views about this topic are very much different and the fact that I can not change the situation after almost one year trying
congratz to SP for that success

Thank you OP, a simple congratulations will do nicely.
We are not joking when we say it has taken us months to get this far, each of us contacting various teams and departments. Cheese was lucky enough to hit the jackpot. And for that I owe him a night of beers next time he is down my way.
But as stated elsewhere, it is a major mile stone and so far January has been an incredible month for us all. We should be looking to keep up the momentum and making sure Feb all the way through to december are just as good for our community.

We wish to boycut our link on the microsoft website.
We have noticed that starport has been included in the links and
we wish to be in NO way associated with the very site that
USED
lancersreactor’s database backups + downloads only to host it for their own means without permission.
Also not handing the material back on request.
We found out about the link issue from the starport head admin Worfeh who said that he managed to
“pull a few favours”
to get his site listed next to ours.NOTE: YOU WILL BE REDIRECTED TO PORNOGRAPHY SITE in 30seconds
lol, ooooooook?

lol,
yup I pm’d MC last night pasted him the link, nothing else. A rather unconfortable convo came out of it.
Told them we (cheese) had to pull favours to get the site listed, witch is true.Anyway… one word comes into my mind.
Pathetic.
EDIT:
Change the like They in I pm’d him, to prevent all sorts of accusations.
EDIT 2:
To inform you, we DID give away a copy of the TLR archived DB. I have no idea what they did with it but it being indexed fully it comes over 400 MB wich is to big for a standard phpmyadmin import.

Funny.
The content what used to be on the TLR site is owned by Microsoft. They hosted the website. By dropping their support / hosting the content fell “free”.
A domain name has no rights, its just a translation tool to get on a hosted website. The rights other than the actual domain name doesn’t exist. So, in other words, i can’t post messages on websites on behalf of TLR, and i can’t refere to them without their permission.
The content fell free on individual rights. So if anyone doesn’t want their mods/tools hosted they can ask for it and we will remove it from the files archive. -
Lancers who??? Didnt they die a while ago?
-
No, TLR is not dead, you can still visit, register and post on the forums at http://www.lancersreactor.com/phpBB3/, I don’t blame them for being upset, but their reaction is over the top. the atmosphere there is not the same as it used to be, and I do not whish to be a member on their site anymore.
If it is okay with everyone here, I will move some (only a few of them) of my posts from TLR to here on the starport. -

Wow, pathetic much? Is that site run by a couple of 2 yr olds, seriously. I’m glad I pulled all my advertisements there.
-
Talk about throwing all the toys out of the pram. I think I’m scarred for life after the re-direct!
What a mature response? Seriously, what happens if an under-aged kid goes looking for Freelancer stuff and heads there. There are still plenty of young players out there. What sort of message is that sending out. ::) Pathetic.
Congrats on getting a result for the hard slog to get on the list guys! Nice to see that hard work and effort can pay off!

It is illegal to forward to sites with adult content without a 18+ warning. With it comes that this kind of content is illegal in a lot of countries.
-
small correction: the stuff that has been on the old TLR site is the property of the original authors… not microsoft
still TLR has no rights on those except those which are caused by the intelectual work done by TLR (which is not much)this action does indeed not help the FL community to keep this game alive… but on the other side the other FL communities also dont do much and that they work together is something i consider a rumor. If i take a look at the extreme low cooperation rate and all that stuff that has been discussed but never was turned into real… well ok … thats off topic.
