MOTY + USAF = WFT?

the problem is the try to do a promotional act of a military through the games and mods carelessly of the influences of the modding scene
Since the US military is sponsoring almost only ego shooters belong to the award winners and the top 100. Genre awards are not even done anymore.Eventhough the miliary seems to “present” the mod awards I can not see anything they do for the modders or moddb at all. The other sponsors have donated prices… but not the big representative of the US military. So the question remains why the USAF keeps being presented in such a way without actually doing something good for the modding teams.
Not to mention that a place for games should at least show enough responsibility not to “link” gaming content with military ads. In the end the games are often played by kids and they never should get the feeling “hey my favorite game gets presented by the us military… wow they rock”.
They could also have sent ppl to the next school to do recruitment work. Thats about the same.

They are advertising. Their targets of their advertising campaign is young adults. Last I checked alot of young adults who are eligible for recruitment play games. Furthermore alot of these young adults are in highschool and will be graduating soon. It’s a no brainer. If I was a recruiter I’d do it too.
Actually this was how I was recruited into the Marines when I was a kid. I was a young buck, bored with college, but I didn’t want to work in a manufacturing plant. Eleven years later, it was a good thing, I had the time of my life and I don’t regret it.
Take it for what it is…. its advertising, the same thing as the US Army sponsoring sporting events and such…
Seriously dude, there are better things to get your pants in a wad about.

From first hand experience I know how many lives the USAF has improved/saved too. You are from Germany so I guess I understand why you have your perception of the whole “US military is evil”… alot of the media portrays the US Military as such.
All I’m going to say is… you’ve never been there and seen lives changed for the better, you’ll never know. Sure some people who are innocent get killed… but its war. It is an ugly business, and nothing like in the movies. Try operating under the ROE that we have to… you’d have a different opinion.
Anyways, you are entitled to your opinion. I respect it, and I’m not gonna try change that. If you seriously felt strong enough about this, put your money where your mouth is, and remove your mod from ModDb. If enough people do this, then ModDb would change its sponsor(s).

Its not ok in my eyes when military does advertise on gamer forum, its pretty much the same as doing it
at the scool, i know that this is done in a lot of countrys all over the world but in my eyes its not ok.
I’ve lost some friends while they get KIA (online friendy aswell as rl friends) I’m a totaly pacifist and i can’t understand how the military of the strongest country in the world can recruit their soldiers at scools on gamer boards or on kids channels on the tv.
I also dont go ahead and adertise our mod and game on a evangelic page (i know its not a good comparison). -
all things aside the military is stil the best way for somebody who cant afford to go to college or for somebody who has no direction to get an education or to supply a good carrer for somebody who doesnt have one. i tell you something i wanted to join the navy and my father whos a world war 2 veteran stopped me . i should of ranaway and joined i would of been in a better place today.

My Main Game for the Past 4 years was Amwericas Army … i am even involved in the Beta Program.
its now in the Guiness Book of Gaming in like 5 catagories … Most Downloaded etc etc and the Navy had one in production…
the Army even promotes the game as a recruitment tool and with over 3 million registereed user names i dont think they have covinced anyone to join the army …
its just a good game to everyone that plays it… i dont care who made it or promotes it.
and in the fast growing Pay to play world of gaming i love anything thats FREE …

my nationality has nothing to do with my views… and this is not just a german oppinion… this way of thinking is done all around the globe.
Im not a pacifist, I believe in military as defending forces. But defending the own country on the grounds of countless other countries while no single shot has been fallen in the US is somewhat weird.
I know many people serving in the US military, I even trained US Airforce members in Starlancer years ago and i have 2 friends which meanwhile are in Irak defending their country thousands of miles away from their families.Im just saying that the military should stay out of the international gaming scene and stop doing their propaganda there. The moddb should be a place for modders and gaming companies but not for militaries.
Ive already composed a mail to moddb declaring my wish to get removed from the mod awards.

Are you all going to disown your TV because they have adverts about the military on it? Should adverts in Magazines be removed as well? Worst still, those bloody cadets must be Satans work… those poor young children who volunteer to join up and enjoy some fun, they’ll be brain washed!
It sounds like the only argument against it is that it’s targeting younger users and that they’ll somehow be brainwashed by an advert before a game? If they’re stupid enough to spend the next 5 - 7 years dreaming of being in the armed forces, off of one or two promotional videos, without any further research and background investigation… then in truth they won’t get into the military as they’ll be too damned stupid.
Honestly, if I didn’t suspect otherwise, it appears you all think children are complete retards. Give them some credit at least… these adverts may make them find out more info about the armed forces. It will NOT make them join.

I figure the USAA, USAF and the USN are free to advertise anywhere so long as they don’t start using Subliminal Messages.
It’s their money, they pay for advertisement so that Moddb can get better, Moddb gets better more Mods and people come on, businesses like the US Armed Forces pay to upgrade Moddb’s server.
Ok, maybe not like that, but provided they pay their bills, the wheel keeps turning.I got no problem with advertising provided it’s not false-advertising.

I dont want any of them put they banner infront of my mod in the same way i dont want that the USAF is not doing it.

Question:
When you people applied to the moddb and submitted a mod to be voted on, what were the terms?
Did they state anything about this?I surely can imagine that a person from Germany doesn’t like his mod to be connected to a USairforce add campaign.
And the Moddb should remove that add from the mod on request, unless they clearly stated that they act as political / add platform for the US goverment.Edit:
Wonder if i do a digg, or a whois if its gonna tell me “hosted by the whitehouse under supervision of the secret service” THAT would be hilarious.

when we decided to take part in the MOTY there was no sign of the military
they have changed the moddb sites just 1-2 days ago
they even have changed the colors of their sites in order to fit to the USAF logo
If i would have known about it from the beginning i wouldnt have wasted 1 month for promotional work for my mods
and im just one of many who are very upset about those changes -
I suppose I better make my say… and join this ‘discussion’.
I agree with Chips and a few others.
Thats all I will say, otherwise I will typing for the next few hours and things will start to turn nasty.
