INstallation issues

well maybe it tries to replace a dll that is in use - mostly from an open handle to this file. Or its another file. Try to install the game after a fresh restart of windows.
And make sure if you reinstall that you probably deactivated the read only of files… May cause something like this as well.

The game will install on my laptop no prob, so its not the disc. I tried installing after fresh reboot and still getting same error. I have also uninstalled 5-6 other games I had on there but that hasn’t helped. Can I install in safe mode, and would that help maybe?

To save you some time, install a virtual CD drive (see http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/dvdcdemulators.shtml) and use it to make an image of your FL CD.
That will firstly prove your CD is OK, and secondly you just load the image into the Virtual drive each time and you can install from there much faster.
Thirdly - it will overcome any what I call “I/O hesitation” problems which can break an installation due to a time-out or other data-flow problem.
It could also be the time when the installer is checking out to see if your graphics card is compatible, you could try setting to 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution to see if it helps.
Let us know what happens.

Nope, I would wonder so. I don’t know the solution of the problem itself, but a workaround: Just copy the Freelancer-Directory from your notebook to your XP-machine, THIS will work for sure.

Bas…Now that is an interesting idea. I’m assuming I would have to burn the file to a cd and then copy it. Considering it would be from a Vista to an XP Im wondering about compatibility. And what abotu the registry, I know FL makes changes there and just copying the game file wouldnt add those values

I copied the game several time instead of installing it - You still get the requiered reg entrys. (Multiplayer ID…)
