Own server problem
-
Hi, Just wondering if anyone has a solution to a problem my son has with his own server. He has installed Mod 4.85, Flmm 1.3 along with Ioncross Freelancer Server Operator. He can see and connect to his server in the list but his mates as far as New Zealand cannot, but they can connect using the fldirectip function in Freelancer EXE Folder.
His firewall is set correct and I see no conflict with the game online with his security suite, I seem to remember this problem arising during my time on Freelancer but as a few of the forums I was a member of have closed I cannot find the solution.
My son wants to have his server available to more players as he is mad about the game.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks. -
Has both he and his friends got the global server workaround?
If not you can download it here http://the-starport.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=30&Itemid=43
Not sure how long ago it was you played but a year or so back Microsoft disabled the global server and servers aren’t listed any more in anybodies FL who doesn’t have this workaround installed.

Does he use a router and does he have open the right ports?
Not only for the game but also for the programs he use on his server.

Note that he will need to allow DirectPlay8 Server access through the firewall too, as well as Freelancer.exe and FLServer.exe
There are a couple of posts about this problem.

Thank you for your response’s.
Yes he and his mates have installed the globalworkaround.
DirectPlay is permitted in his firewall and the router/firewall ports are set to those recommended in his manual by Microsoft.
According to the mod readme the globalserver workaround is not needed for 4.85 but we installed it anyway to see it that would cure the snag. -

If your machine is running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you may have some issues with finding and running servers, which perhaps can be solved by running FL and FLServer with Admin privilege’s.
Another thing to consider:
Setting the Primary Adapter in Vista/7:
Go to the control panel, and click Network and Sharing Centre
Click change adapter settings on the left
Push ALT to show the toolbar and click Advanced->Advanced Settings…
In the Adapters and Bindings section make sure the network adapter that connects you to the internet is at the top, use the green arrows to move it to the top if need be… -
Checked again the firewall settings, there is no problem there. His computer is using Window XP Pro with service pack 2+3. I will try uninstalling the game and the mod manager etc, sweep the registry of any remnants and reinstall in the hope that this may cure the problem.
Thanks for all your replies. -
Make sure you have forwarded the UDP ports, not just the TCP ports.
If you also have forwarded the TCP ports try to get a friend or m8 to do a telnet to that port. like:
telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 3306If they get a black screen saying absolutely nothing its ok, when it starts saying that the connection is refused or it takes a little bit too long your forwarding isn’t good configured.

**Point 2302 to 2399 to the ip of his server. Also you will need to redirect 6073 for the DPlay server.
If he turns the computer on and off alot you will want to set his computer to a static ip, thats done in ‘network connections’.**
