Odd lag running FL and server on same machine
-
Ive been trying to LAN FL with a few people, but for whatever reason whomever is running the server, and playing FL on the same machine gets consistent lag spikes, not huge or terrible, but enough to be disruptive. This only affects the person running FL server, the other clients are just fine. I thought it might be the FLserver trying to connect to the list server and timing out, lagging up the game, but i disabled the list server query, and still have the same issue. If anyone could give some new insight as to what i should be trying it would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve had this problem before myself, but I thought it was just my CPU being overloaded. I don;t know what sort of “lag” you’re talking about, but I had my screen freeze every few seconds. The connection was just fine.
I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this. Like you said, I was running a LAN server that didn’t have anything to do with the global server.
Has anyone found a solution for this yet?

I think it’s a problem with FL itself. Everyone has this problem and I’ve never heard of a solution as far as I know.

Well, youre right on about the problem. Sad to hear nobody really knows a solution, best i figure its an issue with having 0 ping from game to server…its almost like the game is moving too fast for the server to send the information…as much as that doesnt make sense xD. Well, thanks for responding, feel a lot better knowing im not the only one having an issue with it. Guess ill just have to figure out how to get the server run elsewhere.

Just for reference… done this on both my PC’s over the years
1 is a P4 1.8g with 256mb ram… jumpy
2nd is a dual core E22 2.6g with 2g ram… not as jumpy… but still problems (odd lockups when scanning stuff now and then)Id say… a quad could probably do it… 2 cores for server… 2 for client…
but that’s some serious overkill just for FL lol… remember. the server don’t need to be a megalith to be stable… just a fast HD read write cap & a decent processor. (P4 min) -
Well I have a quad (Intel Q9550) and I also have this problem sometimes.

Speed has nothing to do with it as far as I know, it likely is something to do with how FL’s multiplayer operates.
