What keeps you going?

though maybe I am not known to be an partially experienced modder, I simply love the game, as it is the first action game I saw, that is not a shooter, that comes up with a nice vanilla graphics and that my computers had yet all needed resources to run lol.
to me the working on my Freelancer project is the reason to realise an ability, that noone around me had when I started it, neither my IT teacher. also I am patriotic and I really want Freelancer to survive for at least two more generations. I don’t like, if ppl feel concurrence with other modders. to me it is not about beeing the best or either to earn money or respect or pride. I just like to make the game more interesting to the players and to experience myself how much more beautiful the image can be done and how much it can be deformed without getting ugly or inbalanced.
deep regards to why485. your smokecards and ale’s are ace. -
That’s simple.
fox, no any other space simulate have following points at once:
1, Can be modding;
2, Can play on Free (moded) Server;
3, Creat your server freely and free;
4, Support exceed 100 players at once;So, Freelancer is the best game right now.

Think it all boils down to: it’s fun.
I like giving people the tools they need to realize what they want. Hence The Starport. I also find Freelancer to be very flexible, giving a lot of creative possibilities. I haven’t found any alternative to it, so I stick with it

For me it’s working on a project with a fabulous bunch of guys. I really enjoy working as a team on a huge project.
It’s also been extremely rewarding to see all that we have accomplished in a 1 1/2 years. I think that’s what keeps me going.

@NeXoSE: Please if you want help make a topic for it, don’t hijack something that has NOTHING to do with what you’re asking.
-
For me it’s three things…
1. The challenge of understanding (modding etc) as much as possible or until I think it’s enough, or the effort is out of proportion to the knowledge to be gained.
2. Being able to make the changes that I want to see in the game.
3. The pleasure of others being pleased by what I have done. -
I’ll just say that i knew very little of c++, php, mysql, asm before i started working on my server… ;] That is 3 years ago.
And although i slowed down work with FL now in favor of RL, there’re still a lot of interesting stuff in the game code.
I wish we had the source… ;D -
i don’t wish we had the source. imagine, if we had it, we would not have to explore new possibilities and try to hack. we would simply do what we want to implement and just like for half life, there would be dozens and dozens of mods, that all are the same, simply with the best additions. what we have today are different knowledges and our reputation evolves each time we discover some new point, offset or value. we can keep the game alive at least until we know everything. once this day has come, it is time to create kinda Freelancer 2 which was planned by mutlitple modders and by the publishers, too. (sorry on the taboo name “freelancer 2”, its irrelevant, what we call it like, in end effect it stays what it is)

Gisteron, I fail to see the point. It would be much better to have the source.
What you’re saying is that it’s better to fix the car with duct tape and chewing gum than to properly repair it like a mechanic. It makes no sense.
If you were attempting to piece the game together like some others do, you’d much prefer having the source for the flexibility and ease of use that would give you.
