I use Xfire more than not and I also have Fraps. I’m just too greedy with my money nowadays to register it, however, I do use it as is to mix a lot of 30sec. vids, blending them together using Windows Movie Maker to show different aspects of the mod I’m working on for use down the road. (i’m at a standstill on it right now due to equipment failure and help)
Game Cam is not too bad either. I’ve seen a lot of videos made with it.

Can the quality be improved?
Any advice relating optimal settings in Xfire?

Xfire with maxed out settings, converted to mp4 with prism video converter.

Fraps kicks serious ass, too bad its not freeware, but hey they deserve to make money on something that works that well…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzCwWqXvBRQ
Game Cam, is also limited to 30secs in unpaid version + there is no sound.
FINAL VERDICT:
Looks like 30 secs at a time for me using Fraps -
