Laser guns

Hello. I’m interested in creating laser guns for my mod.
I wrote refire delay of rh_tachyon01 (as prototype for laser) to 0.0001 and speed to 15000, looks good shooting in one direction, but its still not an ray when moving guns (targeting). I need ray, not the particles. Like Kyon Lasers in X-series.
Help please. -
It’s just about impossible to make a proper beam weapon. What you have is already as good as it gets, and your refire rate is so insane you’d kill any server you try to run this on.
If you want my opinion, just forget beam weapons in FL. There are plenty of other possibilities that aren’t that awkward to use.

About other possibilities, i made a Flak guns, shooting 5 particles in shot in different directuions, but i want some more new types of guns.What do you think about wave disruptors? They must throw a visible wave damaging all objects in front of player, i mean something like this:

er, no. maximum what you could do is a missile with an explosion fx like a shockwave and a high explo radius. this would damage your ship as well though.

combined with multiple hp_fire points this is worthy a try.

And again, you can kiss your server goodbye. Something credible enough would be insanely heavy.

FF, you forget, the balancing is unlimited. you can make the weapon as week as you want or the ships as hard as you want in order to keep it balanced. in my mod there are such weapons with a refire rate of 8.3, a dispersion angle and multiple hpfire points (two for now but mod’s still under development and concept incompleted). have neither yet experienced probs in MP nor in SP. if its about performance it pretty much depends on the fx you use (or even do not use) and on your very hardware. it is possible to balance it sensibly if you do not restrict yourself to keep the game vanilla which is the one we do destroy with every line in our codes.

In my A-10 main gun it fires real fast like 0.01 delay, BUT not only is it ammo based it sucks down power fast and can only be fired for one or two seconds before your outa power. BUT the power regein is such that it is quickly back to full power in less than ten seconds. And It hits pretty hard, but you have to point he plane at your target and keep it there just like the real A-10.
I might have to get the bugs worked out and put it up on here so others can try it out. Anyone interested??

Doing it this way is not the best and refire rates above 100 per second can cause lots of lag.
Here’s Reynen’s tutorial attached. Note that Lancer’s FL Checker will spot that the CRC codes will be incorrect in the effects copied, but with care you can fix those easily with a hex editor, there is another tutorial for that somewhere but I can’t find it.

We get it, what we’re saying is this is as good as it’s going to get.
@Gisteron: I never said balancing, the LAG will be insane. Try running a server with 10+ people with some people PvP’ing with 100 refire rate weapons; you’ll get so much lag it will be horrible.

EDIT: By stutter i mean go behind the firing point/clip though the firing ship. that DOES not actually happen in regular gameplay

I have some beam weapons i gave to my space creature faction in my mod. Similar to what Anubis made actually which was very nice btw but mine are green and yellow.
Regarding the lag they cause, easily solved for the npc’s at least, short rates of fire over short distances, none of this dying 10k away rubbish lol
