[Freelancer Community News]Freelancer Community Network Bar (FLCNB) Update
-
Since we had major problems with the Freelancer Community Network Bar being hosted on GoogleCode (mainly high latency resulting in websites loading very slowly), the following measures have been taken:
- The FLCNB is now hosted on a seperate server, meaning we are no longer dependent on downtimes of The-Starport or GoogleCode.
- The FLCNB now also has its own Domain name, which means this will be the last update you as a webmaster will have to do. The domain name is http://www.flcnb.net which will always point to the server that hosts the FL Community Network Bar. This also means that we are a lot more flexible when reacting to server outages - we will simply update the DNS with a backup server.
Please help us to inform any webmaster that is running the FL Community Network Bar at the moment (or is no longer running it because of performance issues with GoogleCode) and spread the word!
We will do a major clean-up of the links within the coming month. Please update your FLCNB code on your website and let the FL Community Network flourish and prosper.

It still slows down sites for me, like 20s loading time. Don’t know what’s the problem :S

yeah, starport, fllistserver, flserver.de…

Does it wait on googlecode.com or flcnb.net? Check your browsers status bar when loading the site.
Try to refresh the site with F5, maybe there is a cached javascript still referencing googlecode.

It waits on flcnb.net. Cache is cleared every time browser shuts down.
It also waits only for fl_community_dyn_headerbar.js, and it seems it doesn’t get it at all 'cause there’re no dynamic headbar on pages.
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/4518/52140301.pngIt takes 25 seconds to get this script in separate tab.
In firefox it affected 2 scripts but only for the first time i opened the page. Different caching, i guess.
It also did wait those 20s, so the headbar is there.

I think flcnb.net doesn’t respond to ping requests…
C:\>tracert flcnb.net -w 60000 Tracing route to flcnb.net [87.98.247.19] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 11 ms 11 ms 11 ms 10.8.254.19 2 12 ms 11 ms 11 ms 10.8.248.253 3 15 ms 16 ms 15 ms 10.16.248.50 4 16 ms 16 ms 16 ms 10.16.248.62 5 16 ms 15 ms 15 ms 10.16.247.62 6 25 ms 15 ms 16 ms kzn01.transtelecom.net [217.150.42.118] 7 * * * Request timed out. 8 ^C
It also doesn’t respond to pings from from my server. And also to ping -w 60000.
It’s not a problem with ping, really, you can see that 304 replies are very fast.

Is fl_community_dyn_headerbar.js the only script that takes so long for you to load?
Try fl_community_headbar_script.js for example.
-
Yeah, others load instantly, at least in Opera.
I also opened flserver.de on my server, there were no slowdowns… I just don’t know what’s the matter with this script =(
-
Probably it might have something to do in relation to Opera. The dynamic script uses browser funtions to retrieve the sie of the screen. And there are more things than in the previous version that is done in the dynamic script.
Just my ideas about that script…
-
Oh well… for now, i just blocked that script with adblocker in my antivirus. Hope this is a temporary solution %))
-
It’s working well till now.
Thanks

Finally found the reason - Kaspersky Internet Security. Either its web-AV or adblocker didn’t like this particular script.
Added it to white list and all works fine
