At wits end with FL crashing
-
Hey I’m having a problem with crashing when I go to load a new game. I just did a fresh install of freelancer and Discovery 4.85, cleaned out my My Games folder and made sure I don’t have 3d sound enabled. What else could be causing it to crash, and what can I do to attempt to fix this issue?
Edit: I just deactivated Discovery and FL won’t even get to the main screen now. It’ll play through the opening sequences and then CTD.

After you cleared out the install and the games folder (I assume the saved games) you cleaned your registry? I always do that to be sure. I use CCleaner

I didn’t do that, didn’t even think of it. I’m updating my drivers as we speak. When the game tries to start it gives me the “Freelancer may have trouble running with your graphics card” I don’t know if that would affect anything or not. I’ll clean out my registry tomorrow and report back. Thanks for the info.

Ya, update your driver, although I don’t think it’s related as FL doesn’t recognize most of the new video cards nowadays.

Thats not enough. Check your microsoft games/freelancer folder (if its default) , sometimes old files remain there, belong to the mods, you have to delete them manually, but better thing to delete the entirely folder, restart your comp, and install the freelancer again.
Before you do anything, check the game without using any mods, (open sp, discovery,….etc), and ignore that warning window at the start.
If you got CTD again, then refresh your memory if you made any new VGA settings or else. -
Alright, I deleted every trace of FL, cleaned my registry and reinstalled and everything seems to be running fine for now. Thanks a bunch guys, this was starting to royally piss me off lol. Such a simple solution I wouldn’t have thought of. Perhaps add to sticky for future reference? I don’t know how often this happens but I know I’m not the first.
