Dll’d and tested
I have no clue what im doing… but it sure is fun! I see its a complete testing codebase too… ooohhhh aaaahhhh ships are in .x as you said they’d be, oh dear LS… prepare for incoming questions (lolz).
& thank ye, the MP version was great but gave me little to look at in the way of code… and no way to test anything i may submit to you (if working). now i can learn this engine you’ve created… and see what springs forth from therein 8-)

Thanks, hard to believe it’s only 18 days old huh?
Actually it is still very bare bones as far as functionality but it will allow you to make test scenes. I did that for testing and also Im thinking about leaving open the possibility of a SP mode.
To change the starting scene (same as a system in FL) just edit the ‘startscene’ entry in the config.ini file…

Well there is a major change in the way I’m handling the updates. I have created an automatic installer based off of my FL autoupdater. If you wish to participate in testing the engine you will need to use the following program.
No standard downloads will be available due the massive changes on a daily basis.
Click HERE to download GE3D AU Version 1.002
NOTE : If you have a slow connection it will take a long time the first install, after that only the changed files will be downloaded resulting in a much quicker download.

With the 3 month mark coming up on the 20th, I though I would post a tech demo video of the current progress of the game engine. It should be part of the autoupdate files within a few days.

Looks great, LS!!

Looks like someone is going to be needing a small army of volunteer modellers and texturers. You seem to be going down a similar road to that Infinity guy and he managed to get a lot of models donated to his cause, no reason you couldn’t manage the same. Having said that, Sol seems to be able to make about 50 models a day, what you need is artists!

Looks great, LS. Will be checking it out soon enough.

The latest version that contains all of the new features should be out within a couple of days. I am currently in the process of finalizing the download files before uploading them. Even though its already topping out at 557 megs. Most of it is due to the massive texture extensions supported by the shader, where each model can have up to 6 additional textures for every base texture.
The nice part is once the initial installation is complete, only the modified files will be downloaded since I’m using an autoupdater style of installation.
-
So, I’ll need to dl the file from post #5 first and then use the uploader for the rest of it?
-
Yes.
-
Ok, thanks.
Edit; Done in like 3 seconds.
-
I haven’t updated the files yet, it should take alot longer than that once it is.

Version 0.004 is now online. This encompasses all of the latest updates shown here and on the website. It is a 464 meg download so if you are using DSL or a slower connection it isn’t recommended that you install this. Once installed though, any later updates will take much less time since only the changed files will be downloaded.
If you get a missing mfc 80 DLL, you will need to following Visual Studio DLL installer…
VS Redistributable DLL Pack 2010
If you get a missing dx DLL then you haven’t installed at least the March '09 DirectX package or later. DirectX can be had from the Microsoft website, search for ‘directx 2010 redistributable’.
Additional information and credits can be found in the root installation folder.
- Note : the game does not fully support the lost device feature of DX, if you alt-tab out of the game simply click on the ‘Galaxy Empire’ tab in the task bar then use ‘file->exit’ or press alt then f then x.
Suggested minimum requirements
1 gig memory
1/2 gig video card
HLSL 3.0 shader (required, Vista and Win 7 should be fine)
dual core 2 GHz processor -
New DLL pack added to fix config errors, this should fix any of those problems on recent releases of my programs.
