Not quite new

Hi there,
I’m new to The Starport but definitely not new to Freelancer.
I started to play Freelancer a few month after its release during the summer holidays of 2003 and have been playing it (with some larger and smaller pauses) ever since. But unlike most long-term freelancers I mostly play single player.
I must have played through the story hundreds of times (well maybe thats exaggerated ) but somehow it doesn’t get boring (must be the unmatched great gameplay of Freelancer).
I spent a few month in a server community, I think it was 2005 or 2006, but never joined a clan or did anything great. In the early days, I tried a bit of modding, but I dont have the creativity required for it. I did an “enable the player to buy all ships” mod, and experimented with deleting the LOD ranges from several ini files to increase the view distance but thats about it.
Now recently, I started a bit Freelancer-related coding. Programming has always been a hobby of mine, then after the Abi I did training as “Computer Science Expert, Subject Area Software Development” (this really is the official English name, sounds, I think, much more important than it actualy is. In German: Fachinformatiker, Fachrichtung Anwendungsentwicklung). Now I’m an IT student at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.
So a big Hallo from Rheinland, Stuttgart System, Darmstadt Depot (it should be in Frankfurt, really). I already registered some time ago to do some reading, some downloading to get up to date with developments in the Freelancr Community and what is possible in modding and what is not.
As I said, I did some coding and maybe I’ll have something to release or at least to write about soon, so I wanted to write my introduction first.
MFG,
Obstbaum (OK, stupid name, you don’t have to understand, I do not either) -
Hello, obstbaum.
Welcome to TSP.
Obstbaum means FruitTree?

(yes, Obstbaum means fruit tree).yep, it does. And as I wrote, it doesn’t (and hastn’t to) make sense. But actually, I first used the name on a Freelancer server, because my old nic, ~d’ar’qu_v+~, had too many special characters for the admins taste.

Freelancer was developed in the US. Just sayin’.I’m aware of that, of course
I guess there are inconsistencies like that in Bretonia and Kusari, too.Vesko wrote:
(Also, hurray I actually managed to translate something from German using my 4-year middle school German knowledge. )?? Did I write something in German ??
Well thank you all for the friendly welcome, I hope I can commit something useful to the community (hope I ever finish something, after all, I have some studying to do).
