Evochron Mercenary (Now on Steam!)
-
Was going to make a news post, but the game’s been out for months so it’s not really huge news.
But yes, Evochron Mercenary is out on Steam as of a couple of days ago, has anyone picked it up?
I got my hands on a copy, and having only played small amounts of the last incarnation of Evochron, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is.
For those who don’t know of the series, Evochron is an open-world space sim. It plays a lot like the X series, but without the complexity that gives the X games that learning curve people dislike. And it’s got multiplayer!
Still, it does give that feeling of ‘well, what now?’ often.
Thoughts on it? I’m loving it.

Gt buy this one for my bro’s birthday in February, but it looks like a nice game. More user reviews?

It’s got about the same amount of pushable buttons as FL does, actually.

A mix between I-War 2, the X series and Freelancer.Ah, come on! It has nothing about Freelancer. It’s all X3+BattleCruiser. 100% Simulator, not the cool shooter with breakeable ships parts and third person view. Just a simulator!
battlecruiser btw is a good tsimulator in past(to tell truth not good, but quite fine to play if can), now looking forward for XRebirth.
Doesn’t matter, Mafia’s nothing to GTA, Evochrone’s nothing to FL. Crysis’s nothing to doom3. You just looking at some simliar things which exist in any any of space-sims.

I tried the 60 minute trial and found the Freelancer influences to be instantly recognisable. I’ve since forgotten what they are, though, the game didn’t really grab me.

Non-static weaponry, the default control systems, two of the obvious FL-inspired (or at least similar to, it not inspired by) you can see straight up.
