I need help

I’m playing Freelancer in SP mode, and trying to get all the ships/equipment unlocked from the start of the game. Now from the research i’ve done there are two ways to go about this, opening files, and changing the level values manulay, or using FL Hack.
I’ve tried FL Hack (1.53), and couldn’t get it to work. every time i click the icon it made to launch Freelancer i get “C:\program files\microsoft games\freelancer\exe\ -s127.0.0.1:2302 unable to start”. so without being able to get this working I’m left with the value changing option.
I’ve already spent five hours finishing the ship list, and it was the easy one. SO i guess what i’m asking is, if anyone here has a copy of the files that already have the values reset? I really hope so, as i have no desire to do another reinvention of the wheel. Or failing that, if anyone can tell me where i went wrong with FL Hacks so i can get it to work properly?

So your goal is to remove all the level requirements for equipment and ships? Do you still want the storyline to start?

Yes, i’m basically trying to unlock all ships/gear for the storyline mode. I’ve tried to redo the weapons list by hand as well but it didn’t work out so well, In the ships list, the first number in every line is the level requirement, and i went through and just changed them all to 1, the weapons list is more complex though, and it turns out that the first number in each line isn’t necessarily the level requirement.

Of course it is - can you give an example of one that isn’t?
As for FL Hack (v1.54), all I can think of is if its Command line starts with " or the second character is :, it assumes that’s the path to an alternative Freelancer.exe and uses that rather than the path installed in the registry. If your Command line is blank, then I don’t know what’s going on. (Just created a shortcut myself, which worked fine.)

my path for the FLhack shortcut is exactly
“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\flhack.exe” eFxmqb:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe
and the error that pops up when i try to run using the shortcut is
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe -s127.0.0.1:2302 unable to start.
However, the shortcut to run Freelancer strait is
“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe”
and it runs just fine, so i have no clue why FLhack wouldn’t work?
both of the listed command lines are direct copy, and past from shortcut properties.

That appears as though you have explicitly added the path to Freelancer.exe in FL Hack’s Command line field. It shouldn’t be required, as Hack should determine it automatically, but if it didn’t, you should also use quotes around it. Having said that, I just created a test shortcut using another program (my Freelancer path doesn’t have spaces) and that worked fine (XP). Sorry, got me stumped. At the least, try removing everything after the b (i.e. delete :C:\…) from the shortcut and see if that works. It’s inconvenient, but you can also run Hack after Freelancer.
As for your weapons list, in my vanilla markets_misc.ini, the second parameter (i.e. first number) is only 0, 2, 6, 10, 16, 22, 26 or 30, corresponding to the level required. A simple regex replace is all you need to make them 0 (e.g. in TDE it’s replace (^.?, ).?, with \010,).

Thanks, the idea of running FLHacks after starting Freelancer didn’t occur to me, and it worked. All ships, and gear are unlocked regardless of level, the only problem now is that my faction rep seems to be frozen, but i think i know how to fix that, and if i’m wrong i can always hold off on starting Hacks until i’m about to buy something over my level.
Well, once i finish exploring the corners of the basic game, and finish the story line again, i’ll be back, most likely with more questions, and needing more help. That is, if there is a server running a Babylon 5 mod of some kind.
