oh yes, there were tryings to ask for the source. many, many, many times, 2009 even once again. no result. regardless what it is why they keep it, whether a new game or selling or whatever, they just make use of their rights and we have no chance to get to the source this way. hard but fact.
-
for one thing we are keeping this game alive. slso for every new player we recruit another copy of freelancer is sold. plus they hasve to be happy with all the new developments people are doing with this game. there is no harm in leting people let theyre creative juices fly and create bigger and better effects. it be a crime not to let people mod the game and develop it to keep it alive. this is problably the most easiest game to play and to get into thats what kept me here so long. also this game requires so little resources and does not tax your computer as alot of the newer do.

It’s got nothing to do with money, microsoft game studios policy is to never release source code, nothing is going to change that.
-
them not wanting to sell rights to use the source is not exactly true.
i approached them a few years ago about licensing the source for freelancer in order to create a sequel. I had the financial backing and everything else in place. they were quite eager to sign a deal, i even talked with MS Game Studios about it and they were eager.
the problem is they could not find it. In other words, they (at the time, basically lost the source code for the game).
it took nearly 8 months of back and forth with them to finally give up the ghost on looking for it.

Saucer, please, cut the spam a bit. This is supposed to be at least a tad serious, not a gibberish thread.

They lost the source code? It was not long ago I was reading about how supposedly impressive their temperature controlled source code storage facilities were. It was an interview on bit-tech if memory serves me, have to try and find it again. They’re supposed to have kept everything they’ve ever done. Perhaps it’s a nice room with nothing in it
