Multiplayer

Alright, I kept having an issue and I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere online. Some answers on this website came close, so I decided to register and see if I could get an answer here.
I bought a CD copy of freelancer not long ago after remembering it from when I was younger. I recently finished the singleplayer story and wish to play multiplayer.
I really very strongly dislike playing most any game modded. But the game did not generate an account ID for me. I begrudgingly downloaded the FLKeyGen tool from this website to try and fix the problem, but I have no idea where to save the .ADF file.
The only answer to this problem I have seen mentions using extra software to manage freelancer accounts. I have no desire to use any programs other than vanilla freelancer and the official 1.1 patch for playing Freelancer online. All I want is a code to add to my game files so I can play online. Is there any way to do add a code as a fix so that I can solve this bug without using third-party software while playing online?

Running the 1.1 update from Microsoft usually fixes that problem.
You could try uninstalling/reinstalling FL and then running the 1.1 update right away. Then try accessing the Multiplayer game again.I’ve not run into the problem you’re describing but most players on FLU that have had that issue report that installing the 1.1 update fixed it for them.

Installing the update did not fix it. How do I re-install the game with the update already installed and without touching save files?

Can’t do it. Reinstalling the game will just rewrite the older files that the update replaces. You would have to uninstall the game completely (back up your savegames) and reinstall it. Then apply the update.
If the update doesn’t fix the problem I’m out of answers on that question. I’ve not used the FLKeyGen tool you’re referring to.
When setting up multiplayer an account ID is created and saved to your client machine. When logging into a server another ID is created on the server side which has no obvious correlation to the one on the client end so there’s no way to figure out what your ID needs to be from the server end. You’ve not logged into a server yet so that’s academic.
Try this:
Make sure User Account Control is turned off when you install FL. Also, make sure you are installing from an administrator level account. You can also try right clicking on the install file and choosing the ‘run as administrator’ option when installing. If none of those tips work, I’m out of ideas.
edit: you can backup your save games by copying your My Documents/My Games/Freelancer folder to your desktop. Once you’ve reinstalled, just copy it back.

I uninstalled the game, I did not check the box to remove save games, etc. The game uninstalled successfully. I turned off User Account Control, I restarted the computer, I reinstalled Freelancer, I reinstalled the patch, and I checked myflaccountid again and once more, it was Not Found. Guess I’m playin gsingleplayer while I wait for Star Citizen. Thanks for trying.
UPDATE:
I clicked Multiplayer and a key was already entered. I clicked Create and it worked. However, I cannot find any servers and there seems to be no option for typing in server information myself. Any ideas for this?

You can also download something like adoxa’s patch, but I’ve no idea where his site is right now.

For Adoxa’s site
The original MS FL server was taken down years ago so the vanilla game wont display any servers without a server work a round patch

Microsoft shut down the Global Server a few years ago. Fortunately there’s a patch created by w0dk4 you can use to access the workaround server which will show you which servers are available to connect to.
If you’re running Windows Vista or above you may need to disable IPv6 on your local area connection for your computer to access the server as well.
I know you didn’t want to run any mods or use any 3rd party software to play MP but, it’s become necessary due to the fact that the game is now over 10 years old and MS dropped support of the game and multiplayer capability.
FL is still a great game and a lot of fun to play. You might wish to reconsider your hesitancy to run the mods and 3rd party software you need to play the game.
Some servers don’t require your game to be modded to play as long as you can get on. (FLU is one of them).
BUT, you need to be able to get on. And to do so, at the very least you’ll need to run the Global List Server Workaround patch which is available in multiple locations including here: http://the-starport.net/modules/wfdownloads/singlefile.php?cid=1&lid=6I recommend also that you run Adoxa’s JFLP patch that corrects a boatload of errors in the original game code. It’s faithful to the game and doesn’t change or add anything other than code fixes. It’s been vetted by the community for years and is eminently trustworthy.
Give this a try and welcome to multiplayer FL.
