Engines with Models

Hey folks!
I was thinking about adding Models to Engines. So one could see them in space on your ship and show as a own target on the wireframe, maybe also make them destructable.Has anyone knowledge about it or is this a “new” idea?

Kinda like the sub-targeting system in StarLancer.
It is possible to make the part of the mesh where the engine hardpoint is attached a collision group that has less HP than the whole ship. This was, if you shoot this part of the ship enough, it will explode and vanish with the engine hardpoints. I did such a thing myself.
But showing the engine model? I don’t think I fully understand what you mean… Like having the engine models appearing inside the ship itself when it shows the ship on wireframe? Because I don’t think it’s possible via mounting an engine, unless you change some stuff in the game’s core… -

Bejaymac did something like this with an old Starlancer ship which he put into FL. Only issue was you were stranded if the engine got shot off, thought it was a great idea personally. IIRC it was attached to a destructible engine part which isn’t that hard to do tbh

all of the original ships have collision groups for their engines, so it is quite easy to make destructible engine (exhausts), although there are a couple of issues with ships that have other parts attached to the engines, e.g. the Valkyrie and the Hammerhead.
I think what he wanted to know was if it was possible to shoot and destroy the internal equipment item - engine/powerplant. it might be possible, but the equipment item would have to be mounted externally, you cant shoot anything exclusively inside the root of the sur without the ship blowing up first.
