Freelancer was just a random money making game.NO, IT’S NOT A RANDOM MONEY MAKING GAME AT ALL.
HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT. IN A FREELANCER GAME COMMUNITY!
It’s a giveaway from Digital ANViL’s for Microsoft. AND THIS IS THE ONLY FACT!
DA: Hey Microsoft, buy us, please buy us! If you buy us now, i’ll give you a game, for FREE!
M$: OK, well, i’ll buy you, and we’ll accidentally lost the source code of that game, so nobody in out company can build another one, EVER.

Whyyy soooo seeerious?
Read the whole sentence, please. For Microsoft! Not for me or for you, ahh people. If it was a random game for me than I am not playing it since 2008, right. My point was, that MS gives no f****s about FL anymore.Yes, AND they say they lost Freelancer source code.
Maybe they delete it just for releasing disk space.
M$: Oh, Freelancer, we don’t need freelancer, we just need full-time worker and MVPs, oh and MVP one is completely free. You can delete that folder Steve.
I wonder why Microsoft not lost their Windows source code. Because that will be hilarious.
Mmmm… maybe they really did lost some Start menu related code.

I thought he was being sarcastic.
-
Yeah, that is sarcastic to Microsoft. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
For this very post, i think we in the community already had people doing their great job to building their own Freelancer of their heart.
So in this condition which Microsoft highly impossible to build Freelancer 2 AND you’ll get new game from Roberts Space Industries AND you got several game projects making by people also active in this very community.
So suggest is: move on,
And let Steve cry on he’s own bed because he’s company did st on our loving game (Also he did lots of st on almost everything just like Windows Phone.).
I disappointed on Microsoft, and i think i’ll never trust them again. So please don’t waste you own time to send petitions.

NeXoSE, you crack me up.

Hello everyone,
Just to let you know, I am not being sarcastic nor do I support spam. However, today I contacted Microsoft and submitted a proposal for a sequel. I takes a couple weeks to get an answer, but I believe I can convince them to at least explore the idea. I also told them to look at the fansites (especially Starport) an see how determined we are in playing this game. I have been playing games on computers since the 8-bit Atari text games. I think FreeLancer is one of the best games ever and see the possibilities in continuing this game. I put us all in for any help and beta-testing should they explore creating a new game (hope that;'s ok). Of all the games I have played I think you people are the most dedicated and most knowledgable about modding FreeLancer. This should get our foot in the door! -
From what I remember one time we gathered quite a few signatures for a petition so if that didn’t worked, nothing will … unfortunately.
-
I will one day become rich and buy the FL IP. 8-)
-
good luck buying that. I went to MS quite a while ago to buy the FL IP with all source art, tools, engine source and everything. I had the financial backing, everything was in place to properly develop a proper FL 2.
The problem as it turns out , is that yes they still have the source, but it is berried so deep on one of their multitude of servers that they have no F****** clue where it is and could not locate it.
I talked with MS reps, and MS Games reps to get them to try and find it for months, but in the end … nothing.
-
wat.
Try again!
-
At this point the IP and engine are worthless anyway. Decade-old code, much of which is using deprecated APIs (DirectX 8, DirectPlay, DirectSound, etc.), an old and largely forgotten lore and universe, the main brains behind the franchise back in action on another game… Just bury it already.
We’re modding it because it’s flexible, we’re used to it, and it’s still the only released space sim with such flexibility, but it’s only a matter of time before it gets supplanted (finally!).
-
I mod it because I love the game and because I love to mod it. I mod it because I appreciate it for what it is and because it became one of the ways of artistic expression for me. I do care about its future or non-future as some might phrase it, though I do not delude myself about it for a second.
So therefore, speak for yourself about its technical benefits and flaws and how they do or do not impact your work on it.
I hope it is more than just another (if even rather unique) game for not only me. I actually do hope that the people I interact with during, for and as a result of this work are people who do this because they actually want to, and not out of convenience nor delusions of grandeur.
As for the actual topic: Nay, leave Microsoft alone. There’s no way to reason with them based on idealism or appeals to emotion. Appeals to wallets may get you somewhere. But just how much is it really worth and don’t you appreciate what you have already and ask for more in the face of the good reasons you are still around at all?

A sequel by MS (or any other mayor publisher) is the worst thing that could ever happen to Freelancer.
It would be some kind of console game with around 100 DLCs and Pay2Win with always on DRM, crappy story and, of course, no community support (aka Mods).
I’d rather seen this stuff burned, than seeing the wonderful story and lore of FL beeing destroyed by money hungry capitalists.
PS: Btw. MS was developing on FL 2 - for Xbox!

Just take look Microsoft Flight, it lives only only 6 months. Lucky they kill it before i’m buy the Adventure Pack, so i just need to decide when i’ll remove the game from my disk.
And as FF says, even you get the source code, you actually just get a old wheel maybe even made with old design pattern, and it may make you crazy when you want to improve it.

Pretty much, I wouldnt really pay for it at this point. Only thing they could do is release it for free now, but yeah the probability of that happening is pretty much 0.
