Patching a New Install of FL

Patching a New Install of FL
Good morning! I am returning to Freelancer after nearly 5 years in the wilderness of Elder Scrolls and X games. I have lots of questions, but first I want to put together a solid basic install. What are the patches that I need to install and in what order? I am only going to be using SP or OSP modes of play (if that’s relevent).

Adv_fl_patch_1_4.zip or
-
UnofficialFLSPPatch1.4.zip
-
MS 101 Patch.exe
-
FL SDK v1.5b 29950314.exe
and anything else I might need - I already have FLMM and FL Scan, but uninstalled as yet.
Thank you’ in advance, for your advice and assistance
Bivar
I’m also an eye-candy freak, but not at the expense of playability, so I’m collecting candy
mods as well.

I would just install the game, the 1.1 patch from Microsoft and the JFLP patch by Adoxa.
Microsoft patch available here: http://www.microsoft.com/games/freelancer/downloads_06.aspx
JFLP patch available here: http://adoxa.110mb.com/freelancer/index.html
You’ll also need the GLS server workaround patch here: http://the-starport.net/freelancer/download/singlefile.php?cid=1&lid=6
After that, it’s just a matter of which mod/server you want to play.

…For this, adoxa’s patch is all u need! Widescreen support and other things included.
The official patch you may use if u plan to host a server. -
Thank you both very much - done and done. Now all I need is to decide which/ whether I want to play one big mod or a few (or more).
By the way, I stumbled on several posts dealing with installing JFLP.exe.bin. The whole process including the various options might be worthy of a sticky.
Onward!!!
Thanks again, Bivar

Well, I spoke too soon. Every version of JFLP that I tried ended up replacing all of my ingame text with the following text - “IDS?”. Without JFLP everything is hunky dory - with it see above.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help!

Oh, one more thing…
If you’re running Windows 7, when installing the JFLP, right click on the exe and choose ‘run as administrator’.and as sumanati said, the 1.1 patch is necessary if you’re running a server. Some players though have experienced an issue where their install wouldn’t generate a MPID, or they couldn’t see/connect to servers. The 1.1 patch on the client side sometimes corrects that. At any rate, the 1.1 patch won’t hurt and may help.

Personally I don’t install anything except the official Microsoft 1.1 patch and the GLS workaround in my vanilla FL installation, in Games\Freelancer
But then…
I copy this folder, rename the copy to my mod name, and install the mod I want to use.
Then I do the same again, copy the Freelancer folder not the modded folder.
Some mods have already included different fixes and patches, so this is why I do it this way.
Then to play the different versions, all you need to do is to save your accounts folder for the version you were playing by renaming it to the mod name.
If you have saved games for the version you want to play, rename that accounts folder to accts, and then I drag out a shortcut of the freelancer.exe in the game folder I want to play to the desktop and rename it and use that to start the game. I haven’t encountered any problems with this method.
If you are clever you can write a script to do the folder name switching too, so you can switch games faster and more easily.
In this way you save a lot of time when you want to create a new mod.

Well, I ended up going with Star Traders version and so far so good. I’m not sure what the problem is with JFLP and my Freelancer install, but I have to have the text so… It’s probably an ini issue or something else easy to fix, but I’ve no way to track down the problem. So it’s no JFLP for now.
Thanks again for all the support folks -

Glad it worked out, Bivar.
